I’m making my weekly grocery list, and I've got to ask… What items are always in your grocery cart?

I love trying new foods, but there are definitely a few staples always in my grocery cart... Let’s go aisle-by-aisle, and I'll call out some favorites!

Dairy: Blue Diamond Unsweetened Vanilla Creamy Almond Cashew Milk Blend

1 cup: 25 calories, 2g total fat (0g sat. fat), 170mg sodium, 1g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, 1g protein -- SmartPoints® value 1*

Technically this is a non-dairy find. In general, unsweetened vanilla almond milk is the best. (Love the low calorie count and shelf-stable cartons!) But this creamy cashew blend is extra special, and it has only 25 calories per cup... That’s even less than most unsweetened vanilla almond milks! Find it in the dairy section, and use it in cereal, smoothies, and recipes like these. So good in my morning coffee...

Meat: Extra-Lean Ground Beef (96% Fat-Free)

4 oz. (raw): 145 calories, 5g total fat (2g sat. fat), 71mg sodium, 0g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, 23.5g protein -- SmartPoints® value 3*

Most people don't know this, but ground turkey isn't necessarily a smarter choice than beef: Some varieties have over 200 calories and 15g fat per serving! If you prefer turkey, stick to the lean or extra-lean kinds. But if you love meat like I do, reach for extra-lean ground beef. It's usually labeled as 96% fat-free or as having just 4% fat. Juicy, flavorful, and perfect for burgers, meatloaf, chili, and more. Check out this recent recipe roundup!

Produce: Broccoli Cole Slaw

1 cup: 25 calories, 0g total fat (0g sat. fat), 25mg sodium, 5g carbs, 2g fiber, 2g sugars, 2g protein -- SmartPoints®  value 0*

Before there were spiralized veggie noodles, we had broccoli cole slaw, and this stuff still rocks! Forget about regular cole slaw mix, which is mostly shredded green cabbage. Broccoli slaw combines matchstick-cut broccoli stems, carrots, and red cabbage, and the result is phenomenally crunchy and satisfying! Use it in salads, slaws, and stir-frys, or try it cooked until soft as a pasta swap! Recipes this way...

Snacks: ENLIGHTENED Roasted Broad Bean Crisps

1 oz.: 100 calories, 3g total fat (0g sat. fat), 0 - 150mg sodium, 15 - 16g carbs, 5 - 6g fiber, 1g sugars, 7g protein -- SmartPoints® value 2*

I'm pretty picky when it comes to packaged snacks. My top criteria: low in calories, high in fiber & protein, and completely delicious. These crispy beans hit the trifecta! There are sweet flavors (Cocoa Dusted!) and savory standouts (like Mesquite BBQ and Sea Salt). Track 'em down STAT. You can also order portion-controlled packs online!

Freezer: Green Giant Veggie Spirals

3/4 - 1 cup: 15 - 50 calories, 0g total fat (0g sat. fat), 0 - 65mg sodium, 2 - 12g carbs, 1 - 3g fiber, 0 - 7g sugars, 1g protein -- SmartPoints® value 0*

I can't leave the store without stopping by the Green Giant section in the freezer aisle. My new favorites: Veggie Spirals! I’m a HUGE fan of veggie noodles as pasta alternatives, and these heat & eat spirals save me the hassle of spiralizing. Grab a bag (or several), and don’t forget to stock up on Riced Veggies...

Happy shopping!
