Hi Hungry Girl,

I have all of your books and read all of your daily emails! But please, please, please -- when you feature a recipe in an email, tell us whether it's already in one of your cookbooks. I spend SO much time looking through the index of each book before I transfer recipes to index cards for my recipe box. Thanks!

Lend-Me-A-Hand LeAnn

Hi LeAnn,

A lot of people ask about this, and I have good news for you: Nearly every recipe that runs in the daily emails is BRAND SPANKING NEW! If it's from a cookbook, we'll almost always let you know and tell you which book you can find it in -- like in this recent email, where we revealed a favorite recipe from Hungry Girl 300 Under 300, and in this fantastic email, which includes a recipe from each of the first THREE cookbooks! Of course, some of the recipes in the archives do eventually wind up being published in future cookbooks, but nearly every recipe that runs in a new email is new too. By the way... have you checked out our newish PRINT button that runs alongside the name of each recipe? Just click and you'll get a printer-friendly copy of the recipe that's really easy to read. There's also a set of recipe cards featuring classic HG recipes that I think you'd love, since they're compact and convenient like your index cards. And with the time you'll be saving, you can spend it on making more delicious HG recipes! Enjoy...

Hey, HG!

I've been seeing ads for the new McDonald's McCafé Frozen Strawberry Lemonade everywhere. It looks delicious, but I suspect it has a lot of calories from all the sugar. How bad is it really? And if the stats are really scary, could you make it over?

Lemonade Lover

Hi LL,

Those are my initials too, YAY! But to answer your first question, you're right to be suspicious; that Frozen Strawberry Lemonade is bad news. Each 16-oz. cup has 270 calories and a whopping 67 grams of sugar! Um, NO lemonade is worth almost 300 calories... not even a blended, berry-infused one that comes courtesy of a redheaded clown. Luckily, I have an awesome swap for a very similar beverage, Red Robin's Freckled Lemonade. This lightened-up recipe was co-developed with Weight Watchers and can be found in Hungry Girl 200 Under 200. But since I don't know if you have that cookbook (and I certainly don't want you to give in to temptation at McDonald's), I'm sharing that recipe with you right now. (LeAnn, take note that I referenced the cookbook!)

Freckled Lemonade
PER SERVING (entire drink): 27 calories, 0g fat, 60mg sodium, 4.5g carbs, 1g fiber, 2g sugars, <0.5g protein -- PointsPlus® value 0*

1 cup diet lemon-lime soda (like Sprite Zero), chilled
Half a 2-serving packet (about 1/2 tsp.) sugar-free lemonade powdered drink mix (like the kind by Crystal Light or True Lemon)
1 no-calorie sweetener packet (like Splenda or Truvia)
4 frozen unsweetened strawberries, partially thawed
2/3 cup crushed ice or 3 to 5 ice cubes

Pour soda into a blender and add 1/3 cup cold water. Add drink mix and sweetener. Blend briefly, until drink mix and sweetener have just dissolved.

Add strawberries and ice, and blend at high speed until smooth. Pour into a glass and sip away!
