"Spotted on Shelves..." is my favorite Hungry Girl feature. What are your absolute FAVORITE products that have been spotted in the past few months?

Glad you love the "Spotted" section of the Monday emails. (Sign up here for the free daily emails, if you don't get 'em yet!) There have been TONS of amazing finds this year. Drumroll, please... Presenting the best of "Spotted on Shelves..." in 2013 (so far)!

So Delicious Dairy Free Unsweetened Almond Plus 5X Protein! Almond Milk - This is a fantastic new product in the milk-swap arena. Almond milk doesn't usually have a lot of protein, but each cup of this stuff has 5g protein, plus just 40 calories and 2g fat (PointsPlus® value 1*). Amazing!!! Use it in any HG recipe that calls for Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze. (Maybe add a drop of vanilla extract.) Find it refrigerated or shelf stable at most natural-food stores and some supermarkets.

Weight Watchers Reduced Fat Whipped Chocolate and Whipped Chocolate Raspberry Cream Cheese Spreads - These cream cheese spreads are infused with cocoa, and they taste INCREDIBLE! Plus, the stats are truly impressive. A 2-tbsp. serving has just 60 calories and 4g fat (PointsPlus® value 2). Enjoy some on light toast, apple slices, mini rice cakes... You name it! Find 'em at Walmart.

Torani Sugar Free Salted Caramel Syrup - AHHHH! I love Torani's no-calorie, sugar-free syrups, and this new flavor is one of my all-time favorites! It has just the right balance of sweet and salty. I especially love it in coffee, hot or iced. Try it! It's in select stores like BevMo! and Cost Plus World Market, but you might wanna save time and order online.

Gardein Crispy Chick'n Sliders and Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick'n - There were two AMAZING Gardein products spotted this year, both meatless, microwavable, and ridiculously good. Each slider comes complete with a bun for 190 calories and 6g fat (PointsPlus® value 5*). And the Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick'n is an amazing Chinese-takeout swap! Each serving (2.7 oz. with 1 tbsp. sauce) has 165 calories and 7g fat (PointsPlus® value 4*). The sliders are sold at SuperTarget, while the Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick'n can be found at grocery stores. They'll both be in the freezer aisle.

Limited Edition Heinz Tomato Ketchup Blended with Real Jalapeño - I'm really hoping that Heinz makes this limited-time-only condiment a year-round offering, because it is SO delicious! It's blended with real jalapeño and has just the right amount of kick. A tablespoon has 20 calories and no fat (PointsPlus® value 1*).

Unofficial Spotted Standouts! - These next few freezer-aisle finds weren't in "Spotted on Shelves...", but they WERE spotted this year, and they're too good to leave out! Enlightened The Good-For-You Ice Cream bars are PACKED with protein and fiber, and each one has only 70 calories and 2g fat (PointsPlus® value 2*)! I'm obsessed with these. They're only on the East Coast right now, but they're going nationwide soon. Amy's Gluten Free Chocolate Brownies blew us away at the HG HQ. Maximum fudginess with 150 calories and 6g fat (PointsPlus® value 4*). Last but not least, Garden Lites Veggie Chili & Cornbread Melt and Loaded Potato Soufflé. Comfort-food perfection, and only 200 calories and 4.5 - 5.5g fat a pop (PointsPlus® value 5*).

I love orange and apple juice. Is fruit juice a good choice if it has no added sugar?

Hi Fruity Franny,

Great question! Fruit juice can be a little bit of a food faker. Most fruit juices -- including no-sugar-added juices -- have as many calories as regular soda (around 100 per cup and a PointsPlus® value of 3*). You're much better off having an actual apple or orange than a cup of the fruit juice. The fruits themselves are way more filling. For the same calories as that glass of juice, you could have a large apple or a couple of small oranges. And with the fruit, you'll get around 4g fiber. Juice generally has no fiber. And for those of you who are on Weight Watchers, fruit (unlike fruit juice) has a PointsPlus® value of 0*.

If you're still craving something fruity to sip, look for reduced-calorie juice products. I LOVE Trop50 juice drinks, which are naturally sweetened with stevia and have half the sugar and calories of the regular stuff. A cup has 35 - 50 calories and 8 - 12g sugars (PointsPlus® value 1 - 2*). There are classic flavors like Farmstand Apple, plus creative ones like Pineapple Mango (my favorite!). You could also try fruit-flavored water drinks like Vitaminwater Zero (Rise, the orange flavor, is awesome) and my FAVORITE fruity drinks, Bai5 (Congo Pear and Panama Peach are my top picks).
