I occasionally make shakes with protein powder but I don’t know what else to do with it. Do you have any ideas?

Yes, I fully approve of your desire to go beyond the shake. Don't get me wrong -- I love a good blended beverage, but there's SO much more that protein powder can do. Some of my favorite protein powders are made by Tera's Whey (I get mine on Amazon), but there are lots of great options out there! I like to look for ones with around 100 calories per scoop, which is equal to 4 - 6 tbsp. And now, on to the recipe ideas…

Protein Crepes

Whisk 1 1/2 tbsp. protein powder with 1/2 cup egg whites, and cook the batter into 2 thin pancakes. Each one will have 45 calories and 9g protein! If you plan on stuffing them with savory ingredients (a la cheese, deli meat, or smoked salmon), use plain protein powder and seasonings like garlic and onion powder. If you want to add sweet filling (like fruit, chocolate chips, sweetened ricotta, etc.), use vanilla powder and a sprinkle of cinnamon!

Super Yogurt

Yes, yogurt has protein, but sometimes I want even MORE protein. This is an especially handy trick if you want to pump up those dessert-flavored light yogurts that aren’t as high in protein as Greek yogurt. Use 1 - 2 tbsp., and stir it in thoroughly. Easy protein boost!

French Toast

No, don’t just sprinkle the powder over your breakfast. Whisk a few tablespoons into the egg wash! This works great with vanilla powder, because it gives the dish some sweet flavor at the same time.

Protein Oatmeal

Oatmeal is very satisfying, thanks to the high-fiber whole grains, but a few tablespoons of protein powder can make it even MORE satisfying and nutritious. It works equally well with hot oatmeal AND overnight oats. For hot oatmeal, whisk it into the liquid before heating so it doesn’t clump.

Pumped-Up Pancakes

Any pancakes can be protein pancakes if you mix some protein powder into the batter before you cook it (see the recipes below)! In fact, protein powder can be a flour replacement. Which brings me to...

Baked Goods

So simple. Replace up to half the flour with protein powder in your batter -- muffins, breads, cupcakes, and beyond. Tastes great and it’ll give your treats a subtle nutrition boost.
