Maybe you're vegetarian; maybe you just don't eat red meat; maybe you're not into pork products; maybe you're just looking for tasty guilt-free finds. Whichever the case, we've got a few options for meatballs and hot dogs with no beef or pork involved, as well as some completely meatless choices. We tasted a BUNCH and these are the cream of the crop. Read 'em and eat!

Great Balls of Soy Protein and Turkey!

We ran into some recurring problems while looking for good poultry and meatless "meatballs": a) finding turkey options that aren't unreasonably high in fat, and b) locating no-meat products that have a good texture. Our top picks are loved by all...

Nate's Classic Flavor Meatless Meatballs
PER SERVING (3 meatballs): 90 calories, 4.5g fat, 270mg sodium, 5g carbs, 2g fiber, <1g sugars, 8g protein -- PointsPlus® value 2*

The cool thing about these meatless meatballs is that they're not really trying to TASTE like meat -- they have a unique toasted-grain flavor, which is really delicious. And though they're a bit petite, they taste good and have pretty decent stats, so we TOTALLY recommend them. (Can't wait to serve 'em on top of some Slaw & Order!) Find them in the freezer aisle.

Veggie Patch Meatless Meatballs

PER SERVING (6 meatballs): 140 calories, 5g fat, 390mg sodium, 9g carbs, 2g fiber, 1g sugars, 15g protein -- PointsPlus® value 3*

We've told you about this refrigerated find before, but we couldn't bring up veggie-friendly meatball swaps without mentioning it. These 100% vegetarian meatballs are SO good! Coat a few with canned crushed tomatoes or low-fat marinara sauce, and stick them in half of a high-fiber pita for meatball-sub taste without meatball-sub stats!

Foster Farms Turkey Meatballs, Homestyle

PER SERVING (3 meatballs): 160 calories, 9g fat, 280mg sodium, 3g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, 18g protein -- PointsPlus® value 4*

Mega-meatballs! These fully cooked, frozen things are large, which partially explains and excuses the high-ish stats. If standard beef and pork meatballs aren't your thing but you embrace turkey (meaning you eat it, not hug it), these will suit your needs and taste buds too. We'd eat these any time!

  The Hottest Alternative Hot Dogs

A bunch of veggie dogs we've tried taste like, for lack of a better description, Band-Aids (not that we often snack on adhesive strips). It makes us sad. But we did find one that doesn't offend our taste buds, along with a few amazing poultry-based options...

Yves The Good Dog
PER SERVING (1 wiener): 50 calories, 1g fat, 320mg sodium, 3g carbs, 0g fiber, 1g sugars, 8g protein -- PointsPlus® value 1*

This item by Yves is the best meatless dog we've tasted. Truth time: It is a tad bland; but the flavor isn't bad. As people who like to load their franks with fun toppings, we can live with its mild taste. It'd probably be great in our super-flavorful Lettuce-Wrapped Reuben Dog recipe!

Applegate The Great Organic Uncured Hot Dog, Turkey and Chicken

PER SERVING (1 hot dog): 60 - 70 calories, 3.5g fat, 370 - 420mg sodium, 0 - 1g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, 7 - 8g protein -- PointsPlus® value 2*

The peeps at Applegate are ALL-STARS in our book when it comes to providing lean meat products with good ingredients and great flavor. The turkey dog actually tastes a bit more like a sausage than like a conventional hot dog, but that's not a bad thing. Bottom line: It tastes AMAZING. The chicken one has a more hot-doggy texture to it; not quite as awesome as the turkey, but still REALLY good. Pop these into some high-fiber buns, and top 'em with your favorite condiments (like MUSTARD!). Heads-up: Both the turkey and chicken dogs come in a smaller size, IDed as natural (rather than organic).

Ball Park Smoked White Turkey Franks
PER SERVING (1 frank): 45 calories, 0g fat, 490mg sodium, 5g carbs, 0g fiber, 1g sugars, 6g protein -- PointsPlus® value 1*

An old-school HG pick; one we still love. In case you've never had these, know that they're totally worth trying. Not only are they completely delicious, but since they're made from white meat only, they're also SUUUPER low in calories and free of fat. Enjoy them however you like to eat your franks!
