Whether you're at a cookout, the ballpark, or home in your own backyard, we've got the must-know info when it comes to consuming the great American hot dog!

Let's Be Frank... Having Hot Dogs When Out 'n About!

The Lowdown - The average hot dog in a bun (without toppings) has about 350 calories and 20g fat. Large ones tip the scales with more than 500 calories each. Avoid the oversized pups, people! You might even consider ordering one off the kids' menu. Those are generally smaller...

Top Toppings - Since the basic dog itself is on the high end in the stats department, stick with smart add-ons. Go for mustard, relish, sauerkraut, ketchup, raw onions, etc. Things like bacon, cheese, and oily grilled onions will only bog down your dog. Save decadent extras for at-home creations made with guilt-free versions!

Look for Leaner Proteins - Turkey and chicken dogs won't always be low in calories, but there's a good chance they'll be lower in fat than pork and beef options. Good to know...

Super Sides - Keep your meal's stats in check with smart pairings. Have a large salad (light dressing on the side), some crunchy cut veggies with salsa, or a big ol' Fuji apple alongside that hot dog!

Hot New Finds and Classic Faves!

Applegate Natural Uncured Beef Hot Dogs - These flavor-packed franks are made from quality cuts of beef and not much else -- just water, salt, and spices! Plus, each one has a respectable 70 calories and 6g fat (PointsPlus® value 2*). Applegate also has super-impressive turkey and chicken dogs. The Natural Uncured varieties have a mere 50 - 60 calories and 3 - 3.5g fat each (PointsPlus® value 1*).

Ball Park Lean Beef and Lean Pork Franks - We were sad when Ball Park discontinued its fat-free and lite beef hot dogs, but these new lean franks cheered us right up! They have that classic hot dog taste without any artificial colors, artificial flavors, or by-products. Each of these has only 70 - 80 calories and 5g fat (PointsPlus® value 2*). We still love the brand's Smoked White Turkey Franks, which have just 45 fat-free calories each (PointsPlus® value 1*)... Thankfully, those remain around! Click here for all of Ball Park's "Better for You" franks.

Today, July 26th, is National All or Nothing Day. We're not nuts about that mentality when it comes to diet and exercise, so we're going all-or-nothing on this holiday by not celebrating it at all!
