Everyone enjoys a good apple. Bananas are loved by all. But today, friends, we're saluting an unsung hero in the fruit world. The miniature yet mighty, the diminutive yet delicious... THE RASPBERRY!!!

  What Are They?

Raspberries
1 cup: 64 calories, 0.5g fat, 1mg sodium, 14.5g carbs, 8g fiber, 5.5g sugars, 1.5g protein -- PointsPlus® value 0*

"Raspberries belong to the rose (Rosaceae) family of plants, which houses some of the world's most beloved fruits including apples, apricots, blackberries, cherries, loquats, peaches, pears, plums, and strawberries. Almonds also belong to this diverse family of plants."

"In science terms, raspberries are referred to as 'aggregate fruits.' Aggregate fruits are actually composed of many small individual fruits that come from multiple ovaries in a single flower. In the case of a raspberry, those small individual fruits are the little juicy spheres that make up the structure of the raspberry."

Who knew raspberries and almonds are relatives, or that each berry is actually made up of dozens of itty-bitty fruits? Thanks, World's Healthiest Foods! But hungry humans want to know why these red berries are so lovable and how best to enjoy them. So we'll take it from here...

  Why Do We Love Them?

The Fiber - NEWSFLASH! Raspberries are the most fiber-dense fruit around. In other words, even a small portion packs a lot of fiber. And all that naturally occurring fiber helps you feel full... which is awesome!

The Flavor - Raspberries are literally bursting with juicy goodness! (Don't believe us? Squeeze a berry.) And they've got the most amazing combination of sweet superbness and tart tastiness. Yay, raspberries!

The Other Health Benefits - The little red guys have a slew of phytonutrients with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. What does that mean for you? Eating raspberries could help lower your risk of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and even cancer.

  BFFs!

Parfaits - The tart flavor and juicy texture of raspberries pair perfectly with sweet 'n creamy items like yogurt and pudding. And since layers of food are always fun, we love assembling parfaits with these best friends forever! Don't miss the recipe roundup down below for delicious examples...

The Freezer - Fresh berries can be pricey, especially when they're not in season. That's why we like to keep unsweetened frozen raspberries around. Plus, unlike fresh berries, you won't need to worry about them going bad before you get a chance to eat them.

Other Berries - Razzies (our pet name for raspberries) get along so well with blueberries and strawberries! And we're pretty sure we're not alone in our love for the triple-berry combo. After all, the three frequently mingle in bags of frozen mixed berries. Use the freezy mixes in recipes like this sweet dessert slush!
