Better Off Red!

There's no reason to get sucked in by scarlet-hued shakes with scary-high calorie counts. Toss a few no-guilt ingredients in the blender, and voilĂ ! Red velvety goodness...

Ingredients:
1 packet hot cocoa mix with 20 - 25 calories (like Swiss Miss Diet or Nestlé Fat Free)
1 tbsp. sugar-free French vanilla powdered creamer (like the kind by Coffee-mate)
1 tsp. mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
4 drops red food coloring
1/2 cup light vanilla soymilk
1/4 cup light chocolate ice cream
1 1/2 cups crushed ice or 8 - 12 ice cubes
1/4 cup Fat Free Reddi-wip

Directions:
In a tall glass, combine cocoa mix, powdered creamer, and chocolate chips. Add 2 tbsp. very hot water and stir until mostly dissolved. Thoroughly stir in food coloring.

Transfer mixture to a blender. Add soymilk, ice cream, and ice. Blend at high speed until smooth.

Pour into the tall glass, top with Reddi-wip, and enjoy!

Red Alert!

We feel like a broken record saying this, but why oh why are milkshakes so hard to resist and so ridiculous in the nutritional department? Unsurprisingly, this cake-inspired shake is no exception. All things red velvet are insanely alluring. We once devoted an entire email to RV: whoopie pies, a hot couple, our classic cupcake swap, and more. But we had no idea that a sippable frozen concoction would come around to haunt us. Luckily, we remedied things fast. We created a super-delicious swap that'll spare you the excess calories and fattiness of ice-cream-shop shakes and shake recipes that involve actual cake. (Not worth it.) Just be careful with that food coloring -- red velvet hands are NOT fun...
