8 of the Best Food Finds of 2018: Cauliflower Pizza, Low-Sugar Candy & More

Dec 17 2018

Spotted on Shelves… Top Finds of the Year!

There were some SUPERB newcomers to our grocery cart this year, and we’re counting down eight of our favorites… yearbook style!

Prom Queen: Clio Greek Yogurt Bars Wrapped in Chocolate

One 1.76-oz. bar: 140 - 170 calories, 6 - 8g total fat (4 - 7g sat fat), 29 - 42mg sodium, 12 - 18g carbs, 1 - 3g fiber, 10 - 13g sugars, 8 - 9g protein -- SmartPoints® value 6 - 8*

This find takes the crown, but needs some explanation! These are refrigerated bars made of yogurt that magically tastes exactly like cheesecake, coated in chocolate and ready to drive your taste buds wild. Even better? The incredible flavors: Vanilla, Honey, Strawberry, Hazelnut, Blueberry, Peanut Butter, and Espresso. It’s the ultimate cheesecake swap! Perfectly portioned and available in the yogurt section of these stores.

Most Likely to Succeed: Green Giant Cauliflower Pizza Crust

1/4 crust: 80 calories, 1g total fat (0g sat fat), 180mg sodium, 16g carbs, 2g fiber, 2g sugars, 2g protein -- SmartPoints® value 2*

The cauliflower trend isn't going anywhere, so go ahead and lean in with one of the best carb-slashed products of the year! This yummy veggie-based pizza crust comes in Original and Tuscan, and it has 50 percent fewer calories than regular pizza crust. It’s also vegan, which is good news for our herbivorous pals. Find it in freezer aisles, and check out these recipe ideas using our new favorite crust!

Most Impressive Super-Sizer: Monterey Mushrooms Let’s Blend Finely Diced Mushrooms

2 1/2 tbsp.: 10 - 20 calories, 0g total fat (0g sat fat), 240 - 300mg sodium, 1 - 3g carbs, 1g fiber, 0 - <1g sugars, 1g protein -- SmartPoints® value 0 - 1*

Hooray for kitchen shortcuts! We love that these seasoned diced mushrooms are recipe ready: Mix them into ground beef to bulk up your portion (they blend in seamlessly!), or just cook 'em up as a ground meat replacement. It's a move straight out of the Hungry Girl playbook, and we couldn't be happier to welcome this convenient product into our lives. In Classic, Mexican, and Italian… Yum! Click to find it near you.

Most Worthy of a 20-Mile Drive: Trader Joe's Cauliflower Gnocchi

1 cup: 140 calories, 3g total fat (0.5g sat fat), 460mg sodium, 22g carbs, 6g fiber, <1g sugars, 2g protein -- SmartPoints® value 4*

We lost track of how many bags of this delicious veggie-based gnocchi were consumed at Hungryland this year! It's made with 75 percent cauliflower, and it tastes best cooked in a skillet (not the microwave). We love it with either marinara or light butter and Parm! If there’s no TJ’s near you, might we suggest a road trip?

Most Worthy of Ordering by the Case: Palmini Hearts of Palm Linguine

75g: 20 calories, 0g total fat (0g sat fat), 140mg sodium, 4g carbs, 2g fiber, 0g sugars, 2g protein -- SmartPoints® value 0*

Here’s an unexpected pasta swap that rocked our world in 2018: canned hearts of palm cut into noodle-like strands! Just drain, rinse, and eat. Warning: Palmini WILL change your life (in a good way). Bonus: It now comes in easy-open pouches. We love you, Palmini!

Best Newcomer in the Dairy Aisle: Icelandic Provisions Skyr

One 5.3-oz. container: 115 - 140 calories, 2 - 4g total fat (1 - 3g sat fat), 50 - 110mg sodium, 8 - 15g carbs, 0 - 1g fiber, 5 - 11g sugars, 15 - 17g protein -- SmartPoints® value 3 - 5*

We're not saying Greek yogurt is out; we're just saying that Icelandic skyr is IN. It's even thicker and creamier than the Greek stuff! Lots of companies make it, but we’re obsessed with Icelandic Provisions’ exotic single-serve flavors. Peach Cloudberry? Strawberry Lingonberry? Yes, please! Here’s where to find it.

Most Joyful: Nourish Snacks Ancient Grain Crisps

20 crisps (28g): 110 calories, 3.5 - 4.5g total fat (0 - 1g sat fat), 170 - 180mg sodium, 17 - 19g carbs, 2g fiber, 0 - 2g sugars, 2 - 3g protein -- SmartPoints® value 3*

Next on the list is a fantastic line of savory snacks from our pal Joy Bauer of the TODAY show! (That title we gave it is making more sense now, isn’t it?) She really hit it out of the park with these whole-grain crisps: They’re flavorful and crunchy, and the generous serving size rules! Do yourself a favor, and check out the Texas BBQ (our favorite), White Cheddar, and Sea Salt varieties. In fact, get familiar with the entire Nourish snack line… In stores and available on Amazon!

School Sweetheart: Smart Sweets Sweet Fish

One 1.8-oz. bag: 80 calories, 0g total fat (0g sat fat), 90mg sodium, 35g carbs, 28g fiber, 3g sugars, 0g protein -- SmartPoints® value 3*

Last but not least, it's our current candy crush. (No, not the phone game; we actually have a crush on this candy.) These yummy gummies taste just like Swedish Fish, but they have a tiny fraction of the sugar: just 3 grams per portion-controlled pouch! Score some online, or click to find.
