General Mills patent filed for oats with 40% more protein.
We love oats and we love protein, so this story has us pretty excited! While no product is slated for sale just yet, a patent application was recently published
for a "tetraploid oat variety" that has up to 40% more protein than standard oats. Whatever tetraploid means, we're excited for those extra grams of filling protein in our oatmeal!
New survey confirms that "health halos" cause flawed food assumptions.
According to the International Food Information Council Foundation's 12th Annual Food and Health Survey
, Americans are completely confused when it comes to making healthy choices. Despite a lack of evidence, many respondents said they feel that food with higher prices, brand names, fewer ingredients, and natural-food-store origins are inherently healthier than their counterparts. Our advice? Always read nutritional labels and ingredient lists to determine a food's true healthfulness... Don't be swayed by the price, packaging, or purchase location!
GrubHub reveals the most popular healthy-eating plans...
What's the hottest diet plan right now, according to GrubHub's food orders? Paleo! Orders for paleo-centric dishes went up by a whopping 370 percent last year. GrubHub data also shows that fitness-conscious guys are more likely to go for low-fat options, while women skew towards those ubiquitous juice cleanses. Here in Los Angeles, it's all about vegan food. And across the country in Atlanta, they favor gluten-free grub! Click for more findings
And that's all we've got. 'Til next time… Chew the right thing!
