Special K Protein Bites

11 pieces: 180 calories, 9g total fat (2 - 2.5g sat. fat), 110 - 125mg sodium, 16 - 17g carbs, 3g fiber, 7 - 8g sugars, 9g protein -- SmartPoints® value 6*

Sometimes you want an entire protein bar; sometimes you don't. These bites are perfect when you want a custom serving size. They're packed with grains, nuts, and soy protein, and they are out-of-this-world delicious. In both Peanut Butter Chocolate and Caramel Nut (our fave!), they're currently rolling out nationwide. (We nabbed ours at Target.)

Epic Snack Strips

1 package: 45 - 110 calories, 1 - 7g total fat (0 - 3.5g sat. fat), 210 - 300mg sodium, <1 - 5g carbs, 0g fiber, 0 - 4g sugars, 6 - 8g protein -- SmartPoints® value 1 - 4*

These are some seriously upscale meat snacks! Individually packaged and made with clean ingredients and high-quality protein, the strips are Paleo friendly and free of gluten. And the varieties rock: Wagyu Beef Steak, Smoked Maple Salmon Fillet, Cranberry Sage Turkey, and Sea Salt Pepper Venison. (The beef and salmon are the highest in calories and fat.) Track down Epic products near you, or order online. Then stash a few in your purse for emergency snacking.

Yoplait Custard Yogurt

1 container: 170 calories, 5g total fat (3g sat. fat), 95mg sodium, 24g carbs, 0g fiber, 19g sugars, 7g protein -- SmartPoints® value 8*

After about a decade off the market, this extra-thick yogurt has returned. It's great for breakfast or dessert -- so creamy and custard-y! Bonus: The new containers have wider mouths than the retro versions, which makes them easier to top with fruit. Now in Vanilla, Strawberry, Blueberry, Banana, Lemon, and Caramel. Stock up!

This Week's 3 Things to Know...

The first Hungry Girl Cruise went SO well, we're already planning next year's trip!

We're back on dry land! (Kind of. Los Angeles has been pretty rainy these days.) We had SUCH an incredible time with the HG cruisers, and the positive feedback has been overwhelming. They loved the eye-opening presentations with Lisa, super-fun poolside workouts with Mandee, stunning makeovers with Jackie, karaoke, parties, bonding, and more! It was a lot like summer camp at sea (with cocktails instead of bug juice!). Click here to check out photos and details from our maiden voyage! Trust us: You do NOT want to miss out next year. The new hot grain: sorghum!

Do you know about sorghum? Its popularity is on the rise, probably due to the fact that it's non-GMO, gluten-free, and extremely water efficient to grow. Plus, it has similar nutrition stats to quinoa (with more fiber), which rocks. Health-conscious restaurateurs in LA and NYC are hopping on the bandwagon, and it's appearing more in products too. Fun twist: You can cook it in water OR pop it like popcorn! Score some on Amazon.

Pump up your muscles and your brain.

Need another reason to hit the gym? A recent study found that among subjects with mild cognitive impairment (which is often a precursor to dementia), those assigned to a weight-training program saw improved cognitive test scores. In fact, the subjects who gained the most in strength showed the most improvement on their tests. Train for your brain!

And that's all we've got. 'Til next time... Chew the right thing!

Chew on this:

Today, February 13th, is Oatmeal Monday. If you already ate breakfast, make one of these savory oatmeal bakes for dinner!
