New Flavors! KIND Bars - We are FLIPPING over these new varieties of fruit 'n nut bars. Check 'em out: Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew + Antioxidants, Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate + Protein, Apple Cinnamon & Pecan, Blueberry Pecan + Fiber, Pomegranate Blueberry Pistachio + Antioxidants, and Peanut Butter & Strawberry. Each of the newbies has 170 - 200 calories, 8 - 13g fat, 20 - 50mg sodium, 17 - 24g carbs, 2.5 - 5g fiber, 10 - 14g sugars, and 3 - 7g protein (PointsPlus® value 5 - 6*). AHHHHHHH!

Wasa Thin & Crispy Flatbread - We like our carby items slim but flavorful. So when we tried these thin, delicate, and delicious crackers, we freaked! They're great for loading up with light cheeses and deli meats or just eating plain. WE LOVE THEM! In Original, Rosemary, and Sesame, a 2-slice serving has 70 calories, 1.5 - 2g fat, 100 - 180mg sodium, 11 - 12g carbs, 1g fiber, <1g sugars, and 2 - 3g protein (PointsPlus® value 2*). Crunch time!

Newman's Own Thin & Crispy Pizza - Not to send you into "thin & crispy" overload, but this line of all-natural pizza from King Cool's company sounds SOOO good. A serving (1/3rd of a 13.5-oz. pie) has 260 - 320 calories, 10 - 16g fat, 540 - 800mg sodium, 31 - 33g carbs, 1 - 2g fiber, 2 - 3g sugars, and 11 - 16g protein (PointsPlus® value 7 - 9*). BTW, the Margherita, Roasted Garlic & Chicken, and White varieties have the best stats.

Food Flight: What to Chew at 35,000 Feet!

Have a plane trip in your near future? Listen up! Inhaling packet after packet of honey-roasted peanuts while flying is SO passé. A lot of airlines are offering more variety, but watch out; many of those snack boxes and meal plates contain more calories than you might think. HG pal Charles Stuart Platkin (a.k.a. the Diet Detective) has posted the latest rundown of airline snacks, along with calorie counts and each airline's health ratings. United Airlines nabbed the top spot for healthy offerings, with Tapas and Lite snack box varieties as well as reasonable meal options. JetBlue came in second place, getting points for its portion-controlled snacks and new meal options -- the Shape Up meal box has hummus, almonds, freeze-dried fruit, and more for less than 500 calories! On the other end of the spectrum, we have Southwest offering hardly anything -- peanuts, pretzels, cookies, crackers, and chips. That's it. US Airways earned the lowest score due to poor selection (that Beef Reuben meal is bad news!) and for not being very forthcoming with nutritional info. So what do you do if you're already booked with an airline that has a less-than-impressive health score? BYOS -- bring your own snacks! Jerky RULES, 100-calorie packs of almonds ROCK, freeze-dried fruit is A-OK, and granola bars are perfect. And while fresh fruit is good, be careful: You don't want to open your carry-on bag to find it full of banana mush.

Stuff You Didn't Know You Needed!

From the incredibly useful to the somewhat frivolous to the downright silly, here are a few fun items we've got our eyes on...

Bon Home Heat & Dry Dish Rack - If your home is anything like the HG HQ (in which case, we're sorry), the dish rack seems to be forever full of wet dishes. Speed up the job with this fast-drying, high-tech gizmo. For real, HOW COOL IS THIS?

Message-in-a-Cookie Holiday Cookie Cutters - Got something to say? Put it on a cookie! These super-cute items come with pre-assembled words (like "Seasons" and "Greetings") as well as single-letter inserts for creating your own messages (like "Time to Splurge"). Sweet!

White Castle Scented Candles - Apparently, there are many people who crave candles that smell like fast-food hamburgers. And while this item might make us want to hit the drive-thru every time we get a whiff, it would be a pretty funny gift.

The Buzz...

Wondering if and when we'll be rolling out the PointsPlus® values for all the recipes in the HG cookbooks? Well, we WILL be updating our book site with the new values... and VERY soon! We'll keep you posted as things develop; we just want to calm your fears in the meantime. ***Everyone knows that exercises like jogging, biking, etc., are great ways to burn calories. But what about everyday activities? How many calories could you burn doing laundry? Grooming? Attending a sporting event? Find and compare info for these and 579 more activities with FindTheBest's Calories Burned web app. It's nice to know that a 150-lb. person burns 143 calories during the waiting associated with obtaining a license... ***Food for thought this holiday season -- taking the month off from exercise and smart eating could have a more significant effect than you think. Researchers in Sweden found that after undergoing four weeks of not enough exercise and too many calories, subjects displayed increased fat mass more than two years after the experiment... even among those who initially shed the weight. ACK! Keep 2012 in mind when those seasonal goodies start calling to you... ***Speaking of the food-filled holiday party season, it's good to have a few tricks up your sleeve when it comes to quickie cleanups. Not only is there a Clorox Holiday Stain Hotline, but now there's also the Clorox myStain app (for iPhone and Android). Cranberry sauce on the beige carpet? No sweat! (No, really. Sweat is not the proper stain remover for that job.) That's all we've got. HG out!
