Snack Be Nimble!
Spotted on Shelves...

Nimble by Balance Bar - Sneak-peek alert! These protein-packed bars won't hit shelves for a few more weeks, but they're available online and we want to give you an early heads-up! They are the BEST bars we've tried in a while. Unlike many protein bars, the texture is light, like chewy nougat. These are also loaded with nutrients, vitamins, and other good-for-us stuff, AND they're naturally sweetened with Truvia. In Yogurt Orange Swirl (yummy) and Peanut Butter (OMG-your-head-might-fall-off amazing!), each bar has 120 calories, 4g fat, 95 - 125mg sodium, 14g carbs, 5g fiber, 4g sugars, and 10g protein (PointsPlus® value 3*).

Applegate Naturals Barbecue Chicken Breast - Wait, it's deli-style chicken that tastes like BARBECUE? And it's natural too?! Just try to keep us away from this. The stats are great: Each 2-oz. serving has 60 calories, 1.5g fat, 420mg sodium, 1g carbs, 0g fiber, 1g sugars, and 10g protein (PointsPlus® value 1*). Nice!

Keebler Town House Italian Herb Flatbread Crisps
- These crisps are so crunchy and soooooo incredibly delicious. Top them with light cheese, or just pop 'em straight! A 6-cracker serving has 70 calories, 2g fat, 130mg sodium, 12g carbs, <1g fiber, <1g sugars, and 1g protein (PointsPlus® value 2*). P.S. They also come in Sea Salt & Olive Oil, but this flavor is better.

Serving Size Drama! Let's Get Real...
Our pals at the Center for Science in the Public Interest are at it again... and we're TOTALLY onboard. The people at CSPI recently sent a letter to the commissioner of the FDA, asking the agency to revise its regulations on the serving sizes declared on nutrition labels. Packaged foods with unrealistically small serving sizes (e.g., a 1/4-second spritz of cooking spray) can lead people to unintentionally consume more calories, fat, sodium, etc., than the labels imply. The current serving sizes are based on data collected in the late '70s, and the CSPI thinks it's time for an update. We agree. Come on, FDA, do the right thing!!!

Are Food Shows the New Soap Operas?
ABC recently canceled midday mainstay All My Children, along with One Life to Live, after more than 40 years on the air. (Chin up, soap-lovers! The shows are set to continue in online format, picking up right where they leave off.) Filling in the time slot is the new show The Chew, described as "The View if it started with everyone gathered around a wok." We dig the idea of this show (since it features fun people like Top Chef alum Carla "Hootie Hoo!" Hall)... but we can't help but feel a little sad about AMC. Are you gonna miss the soaps, or do you consider this an upgrade?

The Buzz...

Some smarty-pants people at UC Berkeley and Good magazine put together a clever design contest. The mission? To come up with a more user-friendly nutrition facts label. Click here to view the winning designs... We love them! ***The better-for-you breakfast trend is EVERYWHERE -- Chick-fil-A is now hawking Multigrain Oatmeal for breakfast! Without toppings, it has 120 calories and 2.5g fat; with fruit, nuts, and brown sugar, it has 280 calories and 11g fat. It's also available as part of a meal, with coffee and a fruit cup. Chick power! ***Red Mango has announced its newest fro-yo flavor, and the flavor is... Mango! Wait, really? Isn't that like us announcing that we're hungry for the first time? ***Here's a terrifying headline for you: "Starved Brain Cells Eat Themselves, Study Finds." ACK! As reported at, study findings indicate that when we don't eat, hunger-inducing cells in the brain begin a process of "self-eating." As if that isn't alarming enough, the process sends a message to your brain to make you hungrier, which is why crash dieting SO doesn't work. We're going to go have a snack right now... ***Brown-bag warning! That lunch you pack in the morning may reach unsafe temperatures by mealtime -- even if you add an ice pack! According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, perishable foods kept above 40 degrees for longer than 2 hours are not safe to eat.
