New Varieties! Amy's Light & Lean Frozen Meals - Check out these new meals from our pal Amy: Bean & Cheese Burrito, 3 Cheese Penne Marinara, Roasted Polenta with Swiss Chard, Spaghetti Italiano, and Sweet & Sour Asian Noodle! Aunt Jemima Oatmeal Pancakes - Hot breakfast news! These oaty p-cakes have even more fiber than Auntie J's Whole Grain ones (which we still like anyway). A serving of 3 pancakes has 230 calories, 3.5g fat, 380mg sodium, 42g carbs, 4g fiber, 11g sugars, and 8g protein (PointsPlus® value 6*). Nice! P.S. We've also got our eye on Aunt Jemima's Confetti Pancakes -- the numbers aren't bad!

Pineapple SOYJOY - Those of you who recall the days when we found no joy in SOYJOY must be pretty amused by how much we LOVE the bars now. Ever since their big reformulation, these bars keep getting better! This new flavor tastes like deliciously dense pineapple upside-down cake, and we love it SO MUCH. Each bar has 140 calories, 6g fat, 40mg sodium, 17g carbs, 3g fiber, 12g sugars, and 4g protein (PointsPlus® value 4*). Find 'em in stores or buy online!

The FDA Wants to Put the NEW in Nutrition Labels!

For years, the standard black-and-white labels on packaged foods have stared back at us with cold, hard facts -- facts that many people don't read or completely understand. A big problem is that the stats per serving (and the serving sizes themselves!) can be deceptive at first glance -- what seems like a single-serving portion of food might actually be two or three servings. And the "servings per container" info isn't always obvious. The Food and Drug Administration recognizes this, so the agency is working on a proposal to revise the nutrition facts label and make it more user-friendly. A few of the intended changes include more realistic serving sizes, more emphasis on calories, and less of the info people don't find useful (such as calories from fat and certain percentages). Some consumers have requested a greater emphasis on the amount of preservatives in the food and its level of processing. We're just thrilled that people are paying more attention to their food and that changes are potentially underway to make it even easier to understand nutritional info. Go, FDA!

New Guilt-Free On-the-Go Menu Options!

Starbucks Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino Light Blended Beverage - Pick your jaw up OFF the floor. Starbucks has gone ahead and made its incredible Salted Caramel Mocha into a freezy, guilt-free concoction. A Tall Frap (12 oz.) has just 110 calories and 0.5g fat (PointsPlus® value 3*). We can't WAIT to try it...

Subway Oven Crisp Chicken - HOORAY! This is the kind of breaded-chicken sandwich we can get behind. The chicken is baked (not fried), and a 6-inch sub with 9-Grain Wheat bread has a completely reasonable 420 calories and 6.7g fat (PointsPlus® value 11*). Subway also has a new 160-calorie Yogurt Parfait that's worth checking out!

TCBY Red Velvet Cake and Caramel Supreme Soft Serve - These are the two newest additions to the fro-yo lineup at TCBY. The Red Velvet Cake began as a limited-time-only flavor, but due to popular demand, it's here for good. Speaking of good, both flavors are 98 percent fat-free and qualify for TCBY "Super Fro-Yo" status!

The Buzz...

Just when we thought we were safe from crazy menu specials at Denny's (Baconalia still haunts us)... Have you heard about the new "Let's Get Cheesy" menu? The Winner Winner Cheesy Dinner has 1,520 calories and 101g fat (the only thing you win is a new pants size), and the Mac 'n Cheese Big Daddy Patty Melt meal has 1,690 calories and 99g fat (enough to make us cry for our mommies)! Ugh... ***On the other end of the caloric spectrum, a new study suggests that you can lose weight just by eating a slightly smaller lunch! Despite what you might think would've happened, participants who ate portion-controlled midday meals didn't overcompensate with more calories later on -- scaling back can work, people! ***Returning to the bummer side, a recent survey found that when it comes to multi-portion frozen entrées, people usually eat more than the labeled serving size. Four-serving meals are often eaten by one or two people, and meals meant for two to three people are often eaten by one (by one person, silly... not by one in the afternoon). Read those labels! ***Looking for smarter restaurant options for your kiddies? Click here! The National Restaurant Association has teamed up with HealthyDining to put together Kids LiveWell. Read about the program and look around at the options... ***We love Japan and all its kooky innovations. The latest craze? Fat-burning underwear. These shorts are coated with a special resin that renders them non-stretchy, so your muscles need to work harder to move. WHOA. ***HUGE NEWS: Hungry Girl "Ginormous Food" is comin' atcha this weekend! Watch the preview now, and tune in to Food Network this Sunday (9/18) at 10am/9c for this all-new episode. Lisa will be making guilt-free foods with MASSIVE serving sizes, plus dishing on some great calorie bargains. Don't miss it! That's all we've got. HG out!
