What's New at Starbucks? Where Do We Start?

There's a lot to tell, so we'll jump right in. Livening up the world of SB are Starbucks Refreshers -- cans of lightly sparkling fruit drinks spiked with green coffee extract for a little oomph. Each 12-oz. can has only 60 calories -- find them at grocery stores nationwide. For the java lover on the go, getting a drive-thru fix just got faster. You can now pay for your order with the Starbucks mobile app without leaving your car or even handing over your phone. Neato! In SB food news, two of the latest Petites have some of the most impressive stats of all: The Cherry Pie and Apple Pie varieties have a respectable 170 - 180 calories and 7g fat each (PointsPlus® value 5*). Not bad! And finally, with summer vacation season just around the corner, Starbucks coffee will soon be available at all Disney theme parks in the U.S. Because even though the kiddies may have endless energy, the rest of us might need a little extra help. Thanks, Starbucks!

Things We've Been Waiting for That Are Finally Here!

A bunch of exciting items we buzzed about a while back are hitting stores at last...

Lightlife Frozen Entrées - We love many of the refrigerated items made by Lightlife, especially the Chick'n strips, so we're THRILLED that this new line is now popping up in supermarket freezer cases. The meals pack major protein, and each one has a super-reasonable 220 - 310 calories and 4 - 6g fat (PointsPlus® value 5 - 8*). Look for Chick'n entrées as well as the Perfecto Penne Primavera with Meatless Crumbles. Click here for a store locator.

Amy's Light & Lean Pizzas - We got a sneak taste of these square pies earlier this year (spoiler alert: they're awesome), and we're happy to report that they're officially en route to markets nationwide. In Cheese and Italian Vegetable, each single-serving pizza has 270 - 280 calories and 6g fat (PointsPlus® value 6 - 7*). Go Amy, go Amy...

New Skinny Cow Slimited Editions Snacks - Joining the limited-time-only Shake-Stirs are Mmmmocha Truffle Bars, Best of Both Swirleds Sandwiches, and Oh Fudge Nuts! Cones. Each of these new frozen goodies has just 100 - 150 calories and 2 - 3g fat (PointsPlus® value 3 - 4*). Yum, yum!

The Buzz...

The geniuses at Einstein Bros Bagels/Noah's New York Bagels have taken a smart idea to a new level -- their Bagel Thin sandwiches have paved the way for a whole Smart Choices menu! Everything on the SC menu (which also features soups, salads, and more) has less than 350 calories and 15g fat. That Cheesy Turkey Bagel Thin Melt is looking pretty good! ***Here's one kind of gambling we can get behind... At participating Giant supermarkets, receive a scratch-off Triple Winner Game ticket when you donate $1 to benefit the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and The Children's Cancer Foundation. (Through July 12th; while supplies last.) Prizes include free products, gift cards, and cash... up to $10,000! The Nestlé Dreyer's Ice Cream Company will also donate 5 cents to the cause for every single-serve cup, shake, or smoothie sold between April 13th and June 7th. Click for more info! ***Whoa... A new study out of Dartmouth College may have found a way to bring awareness to what triggers our individual cravings, which could ultimately help in controlling behavior. In the study, brain scans identified people who responded most strongly to food cues; those people went on to gain more weight than others. Who's up for a scan? ***One of the most common cravings out there? CHOCOLATE. Surprisingly, recent research suggests that overweight people who frequently eat a modest amount of chocolate have lower body weights than those who rarely eat the stuff. We know what we're snacking on later... ***Want to grow your own edamame? Check this out... We've had our eyes on this adorable soybean-growing kit for a while, and now that it's spring, it seems like a good time to start planting! ***Need more good reasons to snack on fruit? A recent study shows that a compound found in red grapes, blueberries, and passion fruit could block the growth of immature fat cells. (BTW, in our heads, immature fat cells spend their time making fun of each other and telling fart jokes. BAHAHA!) And that's all we've got. HG out!
