Veggie Mania! (Time-Saving Finds)

Love a good shortcut? These veggie-rific products deserve a spot in your shopping cart...

Birds Eye Recipe Ready - If prep is the step that keeps you from cooking at home, you need to stock up on these frozen veggies. From simple Chopped Onions & Garlic to a super Pizza Supreme Blend (black olives included), these are chopped, mixed, and ready to go! Southwest-inspired dish? Seconds away. Broccoli stir-fry? But of course! Each serving (2/3 - 3/4 cup) has 10 - 80 calories and 0 - 2g fat, plus <1 - 5g fiber (PointsPlus® value 0 - 2*). WE WANT THEM ALL!

DOLE Chopped Salad Blends - These aren't your average bags o' lettuce. The Summer Garden Blend has red and green cabbage, romaine, radishes, carrots, and green onions. And we could not be more excited about the Asian Blend, which features red and green cabbage, carrots, kale(!), broccoli slaw(!!), and snap peas(!!!). Each serving (1/4th of the bag, about 1 1/2 cups) has 20 - 25 calories and no fat (PointsPlus® value 0*). And, yes, we'd totally consume at least half a bag at once. Fair warning: Don't confuse these with the new Chopped Salad Kits, which come with heavy dressings and fatty mix-ins.

What Can Chia Do for Me-A?
What Can Chia Do for Me-A?
The Chia Trend: Should You Hop on Board?

Chia seeds are certainly the ingredient du jour, but you might be asking yourself, "WHY?" Well, first of all, they're packed with omega-3s, fiber, antioxidants, and protein. Furthermore, research suggests that consuming chia seeds could reduce the risk of heart disease. Even Dr. Oz is down with chia... Our favorite TV doc notes that chia can help curb snacking, make your hair shiny, and aid in better sleep. Want a couple of fun new ways to enjoy chia? Check out Kashi's latest cereal, Heart to Heart Nutty Chia Flax. It's loaded with vitamins, and a 3/4-cup serving has just 110 calories and 2.5g fat, plus 6g fiber (PointsPlus® value 3*). For a snack fix, try LesserEvil Chia Pop popcorn. It's dusted with chia flour and comes in Classic Theater Style, Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper, and Aged White Cheddar. Mmmm! Each 2 1/2-cup serving has 100 calories and 4.5g fat (PointsPlus® value 3*). So chew on these... not your Chia Pet. (Does anyone still have Chia Pets?!) The Buzz...

Summer isn't even over, but the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is already back! It's so popular that more than 200 million cups of the stuff have been sold since debuting 10 years ago. WOW. There's no "skinny" option for this sipper, but a Tall (12 oz.) with nonfat milk and no whipped cream will run you a reasonable 200 calories and no fat (PointsPlus® value 5*). Or make our whip-topped swap at home... It has REAL pumpkin in it! ***You've probably heard that "every bit of exercise counts," but could the occasional minute here and minute there be as effective as a continuous workout? Survey says: YUP! According to a study recently published in the American Journal of Health Promotion, even short bouts (less than ten minutes) of moderate to vigorous activity throughout the day are highly beneficial for weight maintenance. Race you to the car... ***Who's YOUR favorite advertising icon? BuzzFeed wants you to vote for the top marketing mascot. From the classic Charlie the Tuna (OUR PICK! VOTE FOR CHARLIE!) to the creepy talking E-Trade Baby... You choose! ***Office snackers, take note: Upon realizing employees were consuming a whole lot of the free M&Ms on display, the head honchos at Google launched an experiment dubbed Project M&M. They put the chocolates in opaque containers while displaying dried fruit and nuts in glass jars. In the New York office alone, M&M consumption was reportedly reduced by 3.1 million calories in the course of 7 weeks. Try it in your workplace! And that's all we've got. HG out!
