Scientists Identify Two New Fat-Burning Foods

In so-wacky-we-couldn't-make-it-up news, researchers are developing a drug that could act as an "imaginary meal," using fat-burning signals to trick a person's digestive system into burning fat even though it hasn't received any new food. In the meantime, check out these foods with recently discovered fat-burning ways... No imagination required!

Chili peppers - For ages, we've seen reports that chili peppers have metabolism-boosting qualities, but this study found something new. The natural capsaicin in spicy chili peppers may actually help turn white (storage) fat cells to brown (thermogenic fat-burning) cells. WOW. One batch of Jalapeño Swappers, coming right up...  

Red grapes/wine - This new study found that a high-fat diet resulted in less fat accumulation in existing fatty tissue and in the liver when extracts from Muscadine grapes were consumed. The results are being largely attributed to ellagic acid, a natural compound in the grapes, which also aided in balancing blood sugar. Double score! Snacking on grapes or having a glass of red with dinner suddenly sounds even more appealing…
