Fish: You know how fish is good for you? It’s good for dogs too in most of the same ways: It benefits their brains, joints, eyes, and more. Shrimp are safe too, as long as they’re fully peeled with the tails off. (You might wanna chop ‘em up too, so they’re easier to chew.)
Yogurt: "But HG, isn't dairy bad for dogs?" Ordinarily, yes! However, the probiotic bacteria in yogurt makes it easy for them to digest. (FYI, cheese is also safe for dogs in moderation.) Stick to the plain varieties and not those with added sweeteners, particularly artificial ones. Give your good boy (or girl) a savory parfait with yogurt and chicken. Yum time!
Corn: Fun fact: Corn is one of the most common ingredients in commercial dog food. Hence, feeding your pooch cooked kernels of corn is fine. (But NO cobs, silly!)
Peanut Butter (Unsalted & Unsweetened): Not all nuts are pet friendly, but peanuts are A-OK. (Technically, they're legumes, not nuts!) Make sure you choose a PB that has no sugar, salt, or other ingredients added. Mix that peanut butter into a quickie parfait with apples. Make it a double, and enjoy a serving for yourself!
Doggie No-NosUnder no circumstances should you let your dogs eat chocolate, garlic, xylitol (found in gum), almonds, macadamia nuts, or ice cream. Yes, they'd look cute licking an ice cream cone, but it’s definitely not good for them...

Cook: 30 minutes
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup mashed very ripe bananas (about 2 medium bananas)
1/4 cup (about 2 large) egg whites
1 1/2 tbsp. room-temp natural peanut butter (no salt or sweetener added)
1/4 cup peeled and grated Fuji or Gala apple, thoroughly blotted dry
1/4 cup grated carrot
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 24-cup mini muffin pan (or 24 cups of two smaller mini muffin pans) with nonstick spray.
Place oats in a small blender or food processor, and pulse until reduced to the consistency of a coarse flour.
In a large bowl, combine ground oats, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon.
In a medium-large bowl, combine all remaining ingredients except apple and carrot. Add 1/2 cup water and stir until uniform.
Add contents of the medium-large bowl to the large bowl, and mix until uniform.
Fold in apple and carrot. Evenly fill muffin pan with batter, and smooth out the tops.
Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean, 25 - 27 minutes.
