Spotted on Shelves...

Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Bits - Bacon lovers now have another option! The stats on these precooked turkey bacon pieces are similar to traditional bacon versions -- a tablespoon has just 20 calories, 1.5g fat, 95mg sodium, and 2g protein (PointsPlus® value 1*). A great pick if you're not a pork eater. Look for pouches on supermarket shelves with the other shelf-stable bacon products.

Cat Cora's Kitchen Snack Pack Pitted Green Olives - The term "Snack Pack" may be a bit misleading as the whole pouch is technically about four servings. But the darn things are so tasty and low in calories, we wouldn't blame you if you ate the entire pack. The pitless green picks come in three flavors: oregano and lemon, chili and black pepper, and orange and curry. Each 4-olive serving has only 15 calories, 1.4g fat, 195mg sodium, and <1g carbs (PointsPlus® value 0*). Find 'em at Whole Foods, Target, Kroger supermarkets, and more -- you can also order the oregano and lemon variety online.

Lean Cuisine Culinary Collection Chef's Pick Ranchero Braised Beef - You may already be intrigued by the words "braised beef," but what the product name doesn't mention? It comes with chipotle mashed sweet potatoes! RIGHT? WE KNOW. The meat is tender, the sauce is delicious, and that mash is like nothing we've ever had in a frozen meal. The 8.25-oz. package has 240 calories, 4.5g fat, 540mg sodium, 34g carbs, 3g fiber, 23g sugars, and 17g protein (PointsPlus® value 6*). Pair it with a green salad for one mighty fine meal!

Talkin' Fresh (Food!) with Rachael Ray...

How fresh do YOU eat? Ziploc (yup, the baggie people) recently conducted a Fresh Eating Survey and found that less than 50 percent of Americans eat fruits and veggies daily. The good news is that 81 percent are looking for ways to incorporate fresh ingredients into their family’s meals. HG pal Rachael Ray has teamed up with Ziploc for The Great American FreshOver Project in order to freshen up the diets of people across the country. We checked in with RR for some fun Q&A, and here's what she had to say...

HG: What did you have for breakfast this morning?
RR: An underripe pear. The harder the pear, the better.

HG: If you could wave a magic wand and make one food appear in every refrigerator across America, what food would you choose?
RR: I wouldn’t want there to be just one food. Rather I would like root vegetables, fresh herbs, and stock in a box. These are the building blocks of flavor.

HG: What is your favorite vegetable? (You can only pick ONE.)
RR: I don’t like this game... 'cause I like all vegetables. But if I had to pick one... KALE.

HG: What's the strangest thing you've ever put in a Ziploc baggie?
RR: I am not sure if this is the strangest, but when I travel I use Ziploc bags to organize the contents of my luggage. I keep my toiletries in one, bathing suits in another, etc.

Rachael also recommends taking a little extra time out of your day to prepare fresh snacks, keeping you away from the junky stuff later. (Want some fresh ideas for veggie snacking? Click 'n read.) For a chance to win a trip to NYC and meet Rachael, enter the Great American FreshOver Sweepstakes! (Ends 5/2/12.) Thanks, Rach! P.S. Have you tried our Baked Kale chips?

These brand-new bites are seriously impressive...

Food Should Taste Good Kettle Corn Tortilla Chips - Those FSTG peeps REALLY know what they're doing. We were hooked after just one of these sweet 'n salty things. It'd be smart to divvy the bag into individual portions, since it's easy to inhale more than a single serving. (Trust us.) Eat an ounce (about 12 chips) for 140 calories and 7g fat (PointsPlus® value 4*).

Simply 7 Single-Serve Sea Salt Lentil Chips and Hummus Chips - These are light, crispy, and very yummy... but in an unexpected way. The hummus chips are great, but they don't taste much like hummus -- they DO, however, taste a lot like Bugles. Plus, you get a nice amount of crisps in a serving, and they're portion controlled. Each single-serving bag (0.8 - 1 oz.) has 110 - 130 calories and 5g fat (PointsPlus® value 3 - 4*). Find 'em in select stores and over on Amazon (here and here).

The Better Chip Tortilla Chips - We gave these a chance, and you should too. The stats didn't bowl us over at first -- about 10 double-thick chips (1 oz.) for 130 calories and 6g fat (PointsPlus® value 3*) -- but the amazing taste knocked us flat. The Sweet Onion and White Cheddar variety is one of the best chip flavors we've ever had. Our biggest complaint? The 2-serving bags that seem like singles. C'mon, you're better than that! Luckily, there are 1-serving bags too. Look for these in the deli section; click to find or buy online.

The Buzz...

There's a new lunch menu being dished out over at P.F. Chang's, and while not everything is a safe pick, we want to show some love to the Dim Sum Lunch. Pair a cup of soup (60 - 70 calories) or mixed greens (35 calories before dressing) with a couple of orders of steamed dumplings (each 3-piece order has 110 - 170 calories before sauce). Egg Drop Soup + Lemongrass Chicken Dumplings + Shrimp Dumplings = 300 calories. NICE! Click here for all the nutritional info. And watch out for those high-calorie salad dressings... ***Can looking at a picture of a cake make whatever you're eating taste better? Maybe. In a recent study, participants were shown pictures of high-calorie and low-calorie foods, one at a time, and then received a "neutral electric taste." After seeing the high-calorie foods, the subjects reported that the taste was more pleasant. We'll test it ourselves by chewing broccoli after ogling a picture of pepperoni pizza. ***There are many flavored vodkas out there... but have you ever wished for a PB&J flavored liquor? It's here, made by those wacky Van Gogh Vodka people. Maybe there's a Wonder bread vodka on the way to pair with it. (KIDDING!) ***Do you know (or are you) a guy who regularly skips breakfast? Heads up: According to new data, men who don't eat in the a.m. are 21 percent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, regardless of diet and body weight. Wake up and chew, gentlemen! ***And finally, some news that makes us want to take a lap around the building. Prolonged periods of sitting -- yes, SITTING -- have been found to be a risk factor for dying from any cause. ACK! Our inner James Brown just kicked in... "Get up offa that thing! And dance 'til you feel better!" That's all we've got. HG out!
