Be Trendy in the New Year... With Good Food and Healthy Habits!
Top Food and Fitness Trends for 2013!

What's gonna be hot in food and fitness this year? Experts everywhere have been weighing in! Here are a few of the trends we're most excited about...

Greek Yogurt: Not Going Anywhere. 2012 brought us many products with Greek yogurt in 'em, like hummus, salad dressing, and cream cheese. This year, expect soda (yes, SODA) and cheesecake made with the creamy stuff! We've been making cheesecake with Greek yogurt for more than a year now, so clearly we're ahead of the game...

Veg Out! Vegetable boxes -- cartons of fresh veggies delivered to your door -- are popular in the UK and have been picking up steam here on our side of the pond. Often provided through community-supported agriculture (CSA), the boxes are generally packed with a surprise assortment of seasonal local produce. Click to see what's available near you!

Fit 'n Far from Home. Be it in-room equipment or outdoor workout resources, hotels will continue to offer fun and creative fitness options. San Francisco International Airport even unveiled its very own yoga room last year -- way to take some of the stress out of flying!

Snack Attack! Snacking is increasingly popular in the American diet, so we're not surprised to learn that restaurants will be adding more appetizer and small-plate options to their menus. It's also predicted that supermarkets will sell more pre-portioned snack items... NICE.

The Buzz...

It's that time again! U.S. News & World Report, with help from a panel of diet and nutrition experts, has released its annual Best Diets rankings! In terms of the best overall plan, the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet came out on top. Weight Watchers won out in three categories: best for weight-loss, best commercial diet, and easiest to follow. Nicely done, WW! Read up here on all the rankings. ***Wanna add something new into your food rotation? Consider gazpacho! Results of a new study have linked eating the cold veggie-based soup to lower blood pressure. Researchers suspect the association is due to the combo of compounds in the various veggies. This may be the first time we wished a scientific study came with a recipe! ***Think you can't get a smart snack at a convenience store? FALSE! Continuing its efforts from the past year, 7-Eleven is serving up more fresh foods and offering smaller portions of indulgent snacks. A new item reportedly hitting shelves? The under-400-calories Bistro Snack Protein Pack, with pita rounds, cheese, hummus, veggies, and grapes. Think it sounds a lot like the Bistro Boxes sold at Starbucks? You're not wrong. ***Speaking of the 'Bucks, the coffee chain is making some changes as well... to its packaging. Starbucks is going nationwide with the $1 reusable plastic cups it debuted last year in the Northwest. Every time you use one, you get a dime discount on your java, so the cup pays for itself after ten refills. Environmentally and budget friendly -- we like it! And that's all we've got. HG out!
