Best Foods/Hellmann's Low Fat Mayonnaise Dressing - This brand-new mayo is a FIND for people who don't like the fat-free kind but would rather skip the three grams of fat found in each tbsp. of "light" mayo. With 15 calories, 1g fat, and 2g carbs (POINTS® value 0*) per tbsp., this stuff ROCKS and tastes great! Feel free to use it in any HG recipe that calls for fat-free mayo (just adjust stats accordingly).
Al Fresco All Natural Chicken Sausage, Roasted Pepper and Asiago - Al Fresco makes chicken sausage in fantastic flavors, and this latest one is no exception. In fact, it's pretty amazing -- cheesy, smoky, and not too spicy. One large link has 140 calories, 8g fat, 1g carbs, and 15g protein (POINTS® value 3*). Click here to find a store near you that sells Al Fresco products. (P.S. Pork-avoiders should know that these are made with pork casing.)
Crystal Light Skin Essentials - We're not entirely convinced (yet!) that these latest on-the-go drink mix packets will actually improve our skin, but they're refreshing and they taste good. Developed with dermatologists, these contain nutrients from plant extracts plus lots of antioxidants. Fancy! In Pomegranate Lemonade and White Peach Tea, each packet has just 5 calories and no sugar. We wouldn't recommend swapping your fancy creams and moisturizers for 'em -- but if you're looking for a tasty new way to get your non-fizzy drink on, these are definitely worth a try.
Almond Breeze Alert! HG Subscribers Did It AGAIN!!!
CHILLED UNSWEETENED VANILLA ALMOND BREEZE IS HERE! Hungry Girl fans know that Blue Diamond Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze is the world's best beverage to use in cereal, shakes, smoothies, and pretty much anywhere else you'd use milk. It's delicious, creamy, vanilla-y, has just 40 calories a cup, yada yada yada -- we've been obsessed with it for years. Well, a few months back, the Blue Diamond folks announced they were releasing refrigerated cartons of sweetened Almond Breeze, to be stocked where the regular milks are found. Big news considering the entire line had only been available as shelf-stable boxed stuff found in the natural-foods aisle, making it harder for shoppers in search of a low-cal milk swap to locate. But sweetened flavored AB has more than twice as many calories as the unsweetened kinds (bummer). When we learned Blue Diamond had no plans to put out a chilled version of the Unsweetened Vanilla, we begged you to write to the company and request it. THOUSANDS of you did just that... and it worked! Refrigerated Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze has started popping up in select markets, and it'll likely hit stores nationwide very soon. THIS IS HUGE, PEOPLE! Truly! Thanks for being so responsive -- you really made a difference. YOU ALL ROCK (every last one of you)!
OOOOOOOOOOOOH... It's GORGEOUS!
A recent national study found that while overall coffee consumption in the States remains steady, the number of people getting their coffee fix at home is GROWING. Not exactly a shock in this economy, considering how pricey coffee chains can be. Since we love saving cash (almost) as much as we love saving calories, we're ALL for this! Here are a few of our picks that allow you to indulge in DELICIOUS coffee at home and for less...
Starbucks Via Ready Brew - If you can't start your day without high-quality coffee on the go, check out these individual packets of instant coffee. Not cheapie-cheap, but definitely less expensive than buying daily cups from The 'Bucks.
Dunkin' Donuts Whole and Ground Coffee Beans - We LOVE Dunkin' coffee, and stores everywhere (supermarkets, Target, etc.) are now carrying this stuff. Brew it up at home and save big. And if you're hooked, you can save even more by signing up for a customizable subscription.
Swappuccinos - HG's DIY coffee recipes are hard to beat. They save you cash AND calories. Click here for a great list of our money-saving staples (including the cheapest at-home coffee option, instant coffee) and some of our favorite Starbucks-style swaps. Also check out the "Shivering Sips" chapter of Hungry Girl 200 Under 200 for even more recipes for guilt-free coffee drinks, including our new-and-improved Joe Cool Java Freeze. Mmmm!
We're going to be shameless by congratulating ourselves and bragging for just one minute. Hungry Girl 200 Under 200 is DEBUTING ON THE NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLERS LIST IN THE #1 SPOT!!!! It's also featured in this week's People magazine (the 5/4 issue with the black cover), and Hungry Girl was on the cover of The Washington Postlast Friday. AHHHHHHHH!!! Click here for a peek inside the book, here to see Lisa promoting it on Good Morning America, and here to see her on Good Day Atlanta. Thank you ALL for supporting HG! ***Baseball season is upon us, and that means you may very well find yourself at a stadium in search of munchies. This recently released, horrifying information about Yankee Stadium snacks may be of interest to you. Chances are, the stats for stadium snacks in your state are similarly scary. Apparently, one of those giant bags of peanuts has 1,360 calories, a chicken slider has 1,340 calories, a "souvenir" bucket of popcorn has 2,473 calories, and a giant soft pretzel clocks in with 630 calories. All we can say is this: If you're gonna be tempted by carby junk food, SMUGGLE in your own guilt-free (or portion-controlled) versions! ***We told you KGC (Kentucky Grilled Chicken) was on the way, and now it's finally here. With just 70 - 180 calories and 4g fat (POINTS® value 2 - 4*) for a wing, breast or drumstick, this stuff is a welcome addition to the world of fast food. (FYI, the grilled thighs have a lot more fat.) You can try a piece for FREE today (4/27/09) at participating KFC locations. That's all we've got. HG out!
