Flats from the Farm!
Spotted on Shelves...
Pepperidge Farm Deli Flats - If you've fallen for Arnold Select/Oroweat Sandwich Thins, you'll be THRILLED to know that Pepperidge Farm just launched its own version of the 100-calorie bread items. In Soft 100% Whole Wheat, 7 Grain, and Soft Oatmeal, these each have 100 calories, 1 - 1.5g fat, 19 - 20g carbs, 5g fiber, and 6g protein (POINTS® value 1*). They're currently sold at major supermarkets in the Mid-Atlantic area, and hopefully they'll go national soon. This is great news -- the more high-fiber, low-calorie bun-like options we have, the better. Woohoo!
Lean Cuisine Baja-Style and BBQ Chicken Quesadillas - There's no shortage of creative (and delicious!) ideas in that Lean Cuisine kitchen. LC has JUST released two brand-new quesadilla options, each with 260 - 280 calories, 7 - 8g fat, 34 - 35g carbs, 2 - 8g fiber, and 16 - 18g protein (POINTS® value 5*). These chicken-studded, cheesy meals are popping up in freezer aisles RIGHT NOW, so start hunting for 'em. Mmmmmm!
New Flavors of Blue Diamond Almonds - If you like your nuts with a dusting of intense flavor, you MUST check out the latest from the folks at Blue Diamond (THE almond people). They just put out almonds in three new flavors -- Bold Habanero BBQ (not as spicy as it sounds, and SO good), Garden Herb (ridiculously tasty with a garlic kick), and Natural Oven Roasted Honey (sweet and delicious). A 1-oz. serving (about 24 - 28 nuts) contains 160 - 170 calories, 13 - 15g fat, 5 - 9g carbs, 3g fiber, and 5 - 6g protein (POINTS® value 4*). While we're yapping about flavored nuts -- Everybody's Nuts! (our favorite pistachios on the planet) now come in a zesty South of the Border flavor. Hooray for new and delicious nuts!

And if you DO enter, tell your pals to vote for you... and try not to use those crazy-fatty French's Fried Onions in your recipe, K?
Lighten Up, People!
S.O.S.! Are Light Menu Items in Trouble?
A recent survey of American restaurant consumers found some conflicting information when it comes to what people SAY is important to them and what they actually order. Even though over 75% of adults said they'd want to see more healthy items on the menu, about half admitted they don't usually order the healthier options. And despite 80% claiming it's very or somewhat important to them to eat healthy, only 20% said they consider health to be an important factor when ordering a restaurant meal -- taste is what's most important to them. Bottom line? If we want restaurants to offer more healthy stuff, we need to actually order it! That being said, we're pleased to announce that Mimi's Cafe has officially launched its Fresh & Fit Menu. Check out a few of the offerings below. We recently had the turkey dinner, and it was GOOD! (We saved calories and upped the fiber by getting double veggies and no rice.)
Ham, Cheddar, and Broccoli Egg White Omelette - 268 calories, 12g fat, 6g carbs, 2g fiber, 34g protein (POINTS® value 6*)
Chicken, Fruit and Baby Greens Salad - 425 calories, 7g fat, 52g carbs, 5g fiber, 40g protein (POINTS® value 8*)
Slow Roasted Turkey Breast - 610 calories, 13g fat, 76g carbs, 4g fiber, 21g protein (POINTS® value 12*)
OMG!!!! A ridiculously cool person has taken pics of every page in a hard-to-find calorie-listing Cheesecake Factory menu guide, and it's ALL online for you to view. Prepare to be horrified. Never mind the 1,500-calorie+ desserts -- we found an ahi tuna entree with 1,750 calories and a bowl of soup with calories in the quadruple digits! Click here to see the menu in its entirety, and then send this email to everyone you know. ***Cook your carrots? Hear this! New research suggests that the anti-cancer properties are more potent if the carrots are kept whole while cooking. Scientists found that "boiled before cut" carrots contained 25% more of the good cancer-fighting stuff than carrots chopped up and then cooked. Interesting! ***Hey! Did you know that Vitalicious recently launched a line of coffee!? It's called Strong & Gentle, and it's pretty smooth and fantastic. It's especially good when you pair it with a Triple Chocolate Chunk VitaTop. Mmmmmmm! ***Guess what?! According to a survey from SeatGuru.com (awesome site, BTW), U.S. airlines serve THE worst food of all. According to the results, American, United, and US Airways serve the most unappealing food. Singapore Airlines nabbed the top spot for best food, but, um, who's flying to Singapore?! The bottom line is this: Bring your own food on board! ***Pick up the next issue of People magazine (hits stands Thursday!) to see our Chicken Fajita Pita recipe. Exciting stuff!!! Sadly, that's all we've got. HG out!
