Phillips Crab Meat - Hassle-free crab? Sign us up! In pull-top containers, there are four fat-free varieties with just 180mg sodium a serving: Jumbo Lump, Backfin, Special, and Claw (kinda sounds like a team of crime-fighting crustaceans, no?). Jumbo Lump is the most delicious; Claw's the most affordable. Each 2-oz. serving has 40 calories, 0g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, and 10g protein (POINTS® value 1*).
Eat Smart Simple Noodles Grab n' Go Cups - This stuff gets our "Awesome Idea" award for the week. You get a cup with fresh veggies, a packet of ramen-esque noodles, and a container of sauce -- Teriyaki, Spicy Orange, or Kung Pao. Add water, nuke, drain, add sauce, and OMG! YUMMY LUNCH! Each container has 210 - 240 calories, 7 - 9g fat, 360 - 570mg sodium, 32 - 37g carbs, 1 - 2g fiber, 8 - 12g sugars, and 4 - 5g protein (POINTS® value 5*). They're currently only available at select markets, so request 'em!
Workouts with Fido! You need to exercise, your dog needs to exercise... Why not combine the two? Well, short of walking and playing fetch (or bench-pressing your Bichon Frise), it's hard to come up with activities you can do together. Hooray for Tricia Murphy Madden and her best buddy (and Cocker Spaniel), Mona Lica! They came up with "My Best Friend's Workout" for pets and their parents. Choose a specific workout fit for your furry friend -- from little lap dogs to older animals. Check out their DVD program to learn how your daily walk in the park can become a full-body workout!
Easy Solution to a Super-Common Dilemma "Help! A bunch of people are coming to my house for a Super Bowl party and I don't have time to cook for all of them and I don't want them to hate me for serving diet food but I don't want to be stuck with greasy pizza and wings either and what if some of them are vegetarians and..."
BREATHE. The quick and easy fix for a party meal: SUBS. Subway has just unveiled its new Fresh Fit Platter, loaded with Veggie Delite, Black Forest Ham, Turkey Breast, Subway Club, and Turkey Breast & Black Forest Ham sandwiches. There's plenty of meat and bread to satisfy huge appetites and, if ordered on wheat, each 4-inch sub will have at least 3g fiber and only about 150 - 215 calories and 1.5 - 3.5g fat (POINTS® value 3 - 4*). Just make sure they don't add cheese. One platter serves 5 - 9 people (15 mini subs), so plan accordingly. And check out last week's survival guide for some added fun. It's gonna be OK.
Target's New Balancing Act We like it when companies (especially big ones) step it up in terms of better-for-you food. That's why we're SO happy that Target's private Archer Farms label is branching out with its new Simply Balanced line. There are more than 70 items in the lineup, from granola bars to frozen pizzas. Each product has no more than 30% of calories from fat, no trans fats, no artificial colors or flavors, a limited amount of sugar, etc. Well done! STILL, check the nutrition labels before you buy -- read those calorie counts closely. Now can we get skinny mirrors in the dressing rooms, too?
We're big fans of Jordan's Skinny Mixes, new-ish and totally tasty cocktail mixes with 0 - 5 calories per serving! They're 100% party-ready (just add alcohol), available in select stores and online, and come in flavors like Cosmopolitan and Margarita. And don't let the scantily clad cartoon hoochies on the labels scare you away -- the stuff tastes GOOOOD. ***For a real, live, thoroughly clad human traveling the world and fighting fat, here's Harley Pasternak! He's picked up diet tips from around the globe and wants to spill 'em. Click here to read more. ***We've mentioned that shopping can burn calories, and researchers agree. According to recently revealed data, the average woman burns about 48,000 calories a year SHOPPING. That's based on about 3 hours of weekly browsing at a decent pace and includes food shopping. FYI, said study was conducted by Skinny Cow. ***BAD NEWS! Due to production delays, Kashi is now having a shortage of those GoLean waffles we love. First Eggo, now this? Wahhhh! Low-fat Van's it is! ***Hey! Do you exercise regularly? Do you REALLY? Recently published poll results show that the percentage of Americans who exercise regularly dropped in 2009 (not by much, but still). Let's turn things around this year! That's all we've got. HG out!
