This Sunday is Mother's Day. Here are some tips on how to eat healthy and enjoy yourself!
MANGO MOM-TINI (approx. 70 calories)
For calorie-counting moms everywhere! Ingredients: 1 1/2 oz. Sugar Free Mango Torani Syrup 1 1/2 oz. Water 1 oz. Vodka 1 tbsp. Fresh Lemon juice
Mix ingredients, pour over lots of ice. Garnish with Mango slice.
MOTHERS DAY WARNING:
People often use holidays as excuses to eat poorly. Don't fool yourself into believing those lies. Just be cautious and deliberate about what you eat on Mother's Day (and all holidays).
HUNGRY GIRL LITTLE-KNOWN FACT
Did you know that pregnant moms who eat chocolate have happier babies? It's true, but that doesn't mean you should pig out on the stuff if you're pregnant. Chocolate, like most good things, should be consumed in moderate amounts. And when you do eat it, go for the dark stuff. Bittersweet chocolate contains a large amount of an anti-oxidant called catechins, which have been known to prevent cancer and heart disease.
EATING OUT ON MOTHER'S DAY! If you're taking mom out for dinner (or you're a mom being asked to choose where you want to eat), a seafood restaurant is ALWAYS a safe choice. Start off with something healthy and decadent like shrimp cocktail...next move on to something grilled, like chicken or fish. Then you can splurge on a little dessert!
HUNGRY GIRL TIP!
Buying a last-minute gift for mom? Opt for flowers instead of chocolate...they're pretty, they smell nice and they are completely carb-free!
CHEW ON THIS: Today is National Roast Leg of Lamb Day. If you're going to eat Lamb, the Leg is the leanest cut. FYI, lamb is an especially good source of easily absorbed zinc and iron.
