Survey Says? The Fast-Foodies Have Spoken...
Wondering which restaurant chain has the best burgers and which has the best breakfast sandwiches? The results of the 2010 Zagat Fast-Food Survey are officially IN. Here are the conclusions we find the most useful, exciting, and all-around good to know...
Best in Salads... In the straight-up fast-food category, Panera Bread took top honors, followed by Wendy's and Cosi. The Cheesecake Factory secured the top spot among full-service chains; runners-up include Olive Garden and CPK. Remember, not all salads are calorie-friendly, so do your homework. (Click on the links above for our survival guides!)
The Grilled Chicken Award Goes to... Chick-fil-A! KFC nabbed second place in this fast-food category, El Pollo Loco came in third, Panera Bread came in fourth place, and Chipotle landed spot number five. Oooh, Burger King got snubbed!
Overall Food Honors... The top-rated large chain is In-N-Out Burger. (Get the protein-style burger with onion, ketchup, and mustard for 160 cals!) The top-rated mega chain is Wendy's, followed by Subway, KFC, Taco Bell, and Burger King. Better luck next year, McDonald's!
Not a Rock of Love Finalist, Just HG's Lisa w/ Bret!
Rockin' Beverage News, Plus Bid for a Cause!
We're SO excited to report that our favorite iced tea in the universe -- Diet Snapple Trop-A-Rocka, created with LOVE by HG's new BFF Bret Michaels -- is being produced beyond its original limited-time-only run. Yayayayay! Apparently, people love it so much that stores can barely keep it in stock. We're not surprised (and hope our pleas for you to email Snapple helped!). The peachy, mango-y, cinnamon-kissed, 5-cal-per-serving tea blend rocks our faces off! Additionally, Snapple's teaming up with Bret for a silent auction via Facebook, in support of the American Diabetes Association. Bid on items autographed by the Poison rocker, from cowboy hats to a customized guitar. The auction's happening right now (ends 8/28/10), and all proceeds will be donated to the ADA. Click now, and sip for a cause, people!
In recall news, nearly 400 million eggs have been called back due to potential Salmonella contamination.Click here for all the need-to-know info... ***We love a good sweepstakes, especially one that takes next to no time to enter and offers great prizes! The boxed-grain gurus at Near East are giving away a week-long Mediterranean cruise as part of their Around the World in 5 Minutes sweepstakes. Monthly giveaways include lots of goodies. Click 'n enter! (Ends 8/31/10.) ***Love Vitaminwater so much that you want the taste to linger on your lips all day? Check out Vitaminschtick, a line of lip balms that come in flavors like Power-C Dragonfruit and Focus Kiwi-Strawberry. For actual ingesting, though, stick with Vitaminwater Zero. ***If you use the heart-healthy reputation of chocolate as an excuse to chomp on candy bars daily, here's some food for thought: Results from a recently published nine-year study suggest that just one to three servings of high-quality chocolate per month could lower a woman's risk of heart failure by 26 percent. One to two servings per week could lower the risk by 32 percent. But consuming chocolate daily does not appear to have a protective effect; the risks associated with potential weight gain outweigh (no pun intended) the benefits. ***Good news from the world of Justin's Nut Butter: The new chocolate flavors -- in squeeze packs as well as jars -- will soon be available in Whole Foods stores nationwide. Hooray! That's all we've got. HG out!
