Who would've expected a sub chain called Blimpie to roll out a reduced-calorie lineup? Not us! Yet, here it is: The Lighter Stuff menu. Participating locations are serving up the line's six items, each with 370 cals and 6g fat or fewer. The Asian Teriyaki Chicken Sub sounds especially gooood! ***We think this new book about the crazy eating habits of notable humans should be called Celebrities Eat the Darndest Things. It's actually titled What the Great Ate: A Curious History of Food & Fame, and it's full of crazy facts. Ernest Hemingway once ate a porcupine?!?! We've gotta read this...  ***Ever dropped a piece of food on the floor and called out, "FIVE-SECOND RULE," and then happily popped it into your mouth? A food scientist (um, with too much time on his hands) has officially debunked the popular notion. Food is NOT necessarily safe from bacteria if grabbed within five seconds... but we're pretty sure no one ever REALLY thought that was a fact-based claim anyway. ***With all the exotic "superfoods" out there, we're excited to see a study that suggests simple grapes (red, green, and black) could reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. We're not waiting around for proven data; we're going to pop some grapes into our faces right now. That's all we've got. HG out!
