All Mixed Up!
Spotted on Shelves...
Quaker Mix-Up Creations Instant Oatmeal - First there was mix-n-match cold cereal; now Quaker has brought personalization to the instant oatmeal game. It's SO easy: Get a box of assorted flavors, mix two packets, and enjoy a made-just-for-you oatmeal bowl! Flavors include Banana Slamma, Blueberry Blast, Mapl-icious, and more. Have two pouches for 160 calories, 2 - 2.5g fat, 65 - 180mg sodium, 32 - 34g carbs, 3 - 4g fiber, 9 - 13g sugars, and 4 - 5g protein (POINTS® value 3*) -- or make a single-flavor mini bowl with one packet. Hot stuff!
StarKist Low Sodium Albacore White Tuna in Water Pouches - YAY! Convenient packs of low-sodium tuna make us wanna do the salt-slashing dance. (Note: This dance may or may not actually exist.) A 2.6-oz. pouch has 90 calories, 1g fat, 70mg sodium, and 21g protein (POINTS® value 2*). Lean protein + portability - excess salt = happy times!
Tropicana Trop50 Farmstand Apple - Coming soon to the refrigerated juice section is the latest stevia-sweetened drink from the low-cal gurus behind Trop50. We love their other flavors, so we can't WAIT to try this apple stuff. An 8-oz. serving has 50 calories, 15mg sodium, 12g carbs, and 12g sugars (POINTS® value 1*). We're excited to heat it up with a cinnamon stick when the temps get low! (P.S. Sleek new bottles are also on the way.)

Hello, Ruby Tuesday...
New Chews from Ruby Tues!
The chain restaurant mostly known for ribs and other such comfort foods, a.k.a. Ruby Tuesday, has revealed a new side... a lighter one! Menu items marked with the Fit & Trim symbol each have 700 or fewer calories. Better yet, each listing will include the exact calorie count. Here are some highlights:
Vegetarian Pasta Marinara (487 calories) - When you want pasta, you want pasta. Luckily, the numbers on this brand-new dish are low enough to keep you from regretting it. This one has 10g fat and 10g fiber.
Petite Lunch Salads (248 - 436 calories) - We're psyched about these all-new options... Same delicious salads, smaller calorie-slashed portions! Just choose your dressing wisely: balsamic vinaigrette (35 cals), GOOD; blue cheese dressing (180 cals), BAD!
HG Tip! While the Fit & Trim icon is GREAT for identifying lower-calorie choices, know that you can save 169 calories and 10g fat if you ditch the cheesy mashies that many of the Fit & Trim entrées include. Just a little FYI...
Our nutty buddies over at My Mixed Nuts are celebrating National Trail Mix Day by offering a whopping FORTY percent discount on all orders placed between now and next Monday (9/6/10). Create your own mix and see the stats as you go, or pick a featured mix. (Check out the new single-serving packs!) Ten percent of the proceeds will go to the National Park Foundation. Just use the promo code: PARKS. That's good news for EVERYBODY! ***Want more great snack food you can chew for a cause? Keep an eye out for select flavors of Food Should Taste Good's ROCKIN' chips in limited edition pink bags; five cents from the sale of each bag will benefit breast cancer organizations. All those nickels add up. Good for you, FSTG! ***Alright, on to less virtuous food items... Burger King is set to debut its NY Pizza Burger -- with a reported 2,520 calories! -- at the Whopper Bar in Manhattan. MADNESS! Supposedly it serves six, but we're pretty sure that not everyone who orders it will be rolling in with five buddies. ***Clearly, exercise's key role in the world of weight loss is that of a calorie burner. But new research suggests it might also help "reset" your brain in a way that influences you to eat less. Sounds weird, but a study with rats as subjects found that after swimming or spending time on the treadmill (this mental image does make us giggle a bit), obese rats ate less than the overweight rats that remained sedentary. (Lean rats showed no change in consumption, active or not.) WOW! That's all we've got. HG out!
