Beware of any bar with the words Extreme, Max, Sport, Plus, or Energy in their names. These bars are usually packed with tons of calories, fat and carbs.
A bar isn't your only bet. You can opt to snack on a Light Yogurt, Quaker Quakes, a Nabisco 100 Calorie Pack or 94% Fat Free popcorn instead.
Don't assume low carb bars are safe choices. Some bars that are low in carbs are frighteningly high in calories and fat!

When you need to grab a bar on the go, think beyond the typical nutritional bars. Instead, try a hearty, chewy granola or cereal bar. Here are some of the best:

A Word to the Size...
Always pay attention to both the size and weight of your bar. At first glance, Kashi's GOLEAN Crunchy! Chocolate Caramel Karma Bar, with its 140 calories, 3g of fat and 21 net carbs, might seem a lot healthier than Kashi's GOLEAN Malted Chocolate Crisp Bar, which has 290 calories, 6 grams of fat and 43 net carbs. Take a closer look and you'll realize the Malted Chocolate Crisp bar has twice the fat, calories, and carbs as the Crunchy! bar, because it's twice as dense! While the Crunchy! Bar actually looks bigger size-wise, it weighs less. That means Kashi's GOLEAN Crunchy! bars are a great choice if you'd like to trick yourself into thinking you're eating more than you actually are, though ounce for ounce they're no better for you nutritionally.

Think a food with the word 'lean' in its name must be, well, lean? Don't be fooled!
Promax Lean Protein Nutritional Bar in Chocolate Banana Nut has 310 calories, 9g of fat, and 25 net carbs. Ewww. It's basically a deceptively-packaged candy bar!
