Fast food restaurants have recently introduced some new monstrosities. And they're still serving up some old faves you'll want to avoid, too.
Take for example, Carl's Jr.'s new Breakfast Burger. It's a burger topped with a fried egg, hash browns, bacon & cheese. And it weighs in at 830 calories and 46g of fat. It's the perfect breakfast for the person who wants to start off their day with a quick heart attack.
Hardee's has unleashed a frightening sandwich on mankind called The Monster Thickburger. This drive-thru disaster is made up of 2/3 a pound of hamburger, 3 slices of cheese, 4 pieces of bacon, mayo, a bun, and butter!!! Just how bad for you is it? 1420 calories and 107 grams of fat bad! That's the equivalent of 2 Big Macs and a small fries. The Monster Thickburger is ideal for anyone who wants monster thick thighs.
You'll also want to steer clear of the dreaded Double Whopper with Cheese from Burger King -- unless you want to double your time on the treadmill to burn off the 1060 calories and 69 grams of fat it packs in.
Relax, burger fans! There are some great ways to satisfy your burger cravings without packing on pounds. Here are some healthy options:
Jennie-O Turkey Burgers: If you want meat as opposed to veggie, this is a great option. Each pre-formed patty has just 160 calories...Healthy and convenient.
Dr. Praeger's: The doctor's veggie burgers are AMAZING! Delicious and full of heart-healthy soy protein, you should run out and get these 100-calorie patties. Stat!
Boca Burger - Original: If you want a veggie burger that tastes like meat, go for a Boca! The "Original" flavor has just 80 calories and 1g of fat.
Carl's Famous Star (Carl's Jr.): If you order carefully, you can make the typical fast food burger a lot healthier. For example, skip the mayo and special sauce -- and order your burger wrapped in lettuce instead of on a bun. You'll end up with a charbroiled patty, lettuce, pickles, mustard, ketchup and tomatoes. Nothin' wrong with that. And, you'll be eating just 213 calories, 15g of fat and 3 carbs!
Hungry Girl TIPS for BURGERS AT HOME!
HUNGRY GIRL TIPS!
-Be sure to buy the hamburger with the least amount of fat (usually 5 or 7%). You can save hundreds of calories and dozens of fat grams.
-Cook your burger on a George Foreman Grill. Fat drips down and collects in a little trapper -- instead of on your butt.
-Ditch the bun and opt for a low carb tortilla or lettuce bun instead. Not only will you cut calories and carbs, you'll also squeeze in another serving of veggies!
-Buy pre-formed patties. They're ideal for portion control.
