Cash in Your Chips!

Researchers are working on a new tortilla chip that may actually lower cholesterol.  The snack will be fried in oil spiked with phytosterol, a plant extract that can soak up excess cholesterol without affecting taste.  Are the chips high in fat and calories?  Absolutely.  But they have been proven to block the body's absorption of LDL (bad cholesterol).  So if you're gonna splurge, they're your best bet.  What's next?  Blood pressure-reducing donuts?  Triglyceride-trimming truffles?  Bring 'em on!
Picture Perfect Meals!

If you want to start logging your food and exercise but don't have the patience to write it all down, Nutrax wants to help.  This new weight loss aid will log photos of your food and give you access to a database of 26,000 foods and their nutritional values.  All you need to do is whip out your cell phone, snap a pic of your meal, and send your pic in.  Nutrax will keep records of your photos and let you know how healthy or unhealthy your meals are.  Depending on which subscription you choose, you'll have access to features like regular photo diary reviews and 24/7 help from a personal nutritionist.  Interesting.  We just wonder where they're going to find people who are too lazy to jot down what they eat, yet have the dedication and resources to do photo shoots with their food?

Give Soy a Shot!

There's soy meat, soy pasta, soy ice cream...and now soy vodka!   "3 Vodka" is the world's only vodka "made smooth from soy."  While we believe that's true, we're not exactly sure what it means.  Touted as carb-free (uh, don't let that fool you, people -- ALL vodka is carb-free), 3 Vodka has about the same amount of calories as regular vodka, which is about 60 an ounce.  For more info, or to see if this kooky new vodka is available in your area, check out the 3 Vodka web site.
What People Are Buzzing About...

Due to the success of Diet Coke with Lime, Pepsi will introduce its own version, Diet Pepsi with Lime, this Spring.  ***There's a new cereal in town -- Kellogg's Vanilla Creme Frosted Mini Wheats. It's got whole grain goodness but LOTS of sugar.  Be careful!   ***Starbucks sales are sliding and their stock is dropping, according to recent reports.  Could it have anything to do with the release of that evil, melted chocolate fat-fest of a drink, Chantico?  ***Coming soon to a bathroom near you?  A new scale (the brainchild of a video-game developer) that not only tracks weight loss, body fat and body mass but also offers up words of encouragement.  The XaviX Heath & Family Fitness Manager will be out this spring.  That's all we've got.  Please remember to take our poll!   HG out!
