Luna: Raising the Bar!
New Luna Bars Kick Cookie Cravings!
Thanks to the bar-making geniuses at Luna, you can zap your chewy cookie cravings in a flash, with a guilt-free 170-180 calorie healthy treat. Luna's three new cookielicious flavors are Peanut Butter Cookie, Cookies 'n Cream Delight and Iced Oatmeal Raisin. Each is low in fat, and like Luna's other flavors, is now packed with 3g of fiber (they recently changed their formula to include more fiber). These new bars (which contain 3 points each, in case you count!) should already be on supermarket shelves. With these great new cookie swaps, you'll never have to get caught with your hands in the cookie jar again.
First-Ever Double Churned Ice Cream Bars Arrive!
Breyers may have been late in the game to put out Cal Smart, their version of "alternatively-churned" ice cream, but they're the first to use this cutting edge technology to make frozen novelties. Arriving in stores this month, are their new Double Churned Light Bars, which come in Vanilla & Almond, Rocky Road, Creamy Vanilla, and Chocolate Fudge. All the bars (except for the fudge bar) are slightly higher in calories than your average guilt-free ice cream treat (the Rocky Road contains 180 calories and 9g fat), but with all the fancy chocolate and nut coatings, they're really more of an alternative to the decadent "treats-on-a-stick" offered up by Dove, Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's, than a straight competitor to Skinny Cow and No Pudge. Either way, we'll be trying these cool creations and reporting on them very soon.
Double Churned & 1/2 the Fat!
Fat-Packed Foods = A Snacker's Nightmare!
High Fat Diets May Increase Snack Urges
A recent study conducted by Pennsylvania State University (published in the Journal of Nutrition), showed that rats who were on a high fat diet ate more snacks than rats who weren't. Researchers claim this happens because diets high in fat can affect the body's sensitivity to a hormone called cholecystokinin (CCK), that tells the body when to stop eating. Though this exact CCK-related study has never been conducting on humans, there have been studies done where people on high fat diets felt the desire to eat more. Interestingly, though, the rats who gorged on more snacks didn't gain weight. That's because, unlike humans, rats have an innate ability to compensate for over consumption. Essentially, they can eat as much as they want and never gain weight. Hmmm, a rat's life might not be so bad after all...
Remember when being called a zero was a bad thing? Well, those days are long gone. It seems that yet another diet soda brand has changed their name to include the Z word, which oddly enough means "an insignificant person or thing." Diet Rite's new Pure Zero, though, is anything BUT insignificant. The look and feel of their packaging may have changed, but their awesome flavored sodas (white grape being our fave!) have remained intact. ***You probably already knew this, but Atkins has declared bankruptcy. They'll continue to produce their popular items, including some shakes and bars, but the majority of their low carb products will soon be gone. We say good riddance, as many of those items were high fat, high cal and, um, horrible-tasting. ***Speaking of carbs, the world's largest bagel has finally been entered into the Guiness Book of World Records. Baked by Bruegger's last year, the 868 lb, 20" thick breadthing was 4,000 times the size of a regular bagel. FYI, that massive bagel had 21,700 points (yes, we calculated it). That's all we've got...HG out!
