I use "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray and it supposedly has ZERO calories. Does it really have no calories at all? How can that be?
-- Spraying in Sacramento
The "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray has ZERO calories if you use just a few spritzes. However, if you do what most of us do and spray to your heart's content, you can rack up calories and fat grams pretty quickly. Here's the scoop: 12.5 sprays is 10 calories and 1 gram of fat, 25 sprays (1 teaspoon) is 20 calories and 2 grams of fat, and 37.5 sprays is 30 calories and 3 grams of fat. In case you're curious, the entire bottle contains 900 calories and 90 grams of fat! Helpful hint: When it comes to this stuff, stick with spraying as opposed to pouring.
Dear Hungry Girl,
I love beef. What is the best choice for me if I want to eat it?
-- Mad About Meat
Dear Mad About Meat,
Your best beef bet is a piece of lean steak. The least-fatty options are the filet and sirloin. Avoid the ribeye, T-bone and flank -- they're marbled with fat! Here’s some help with that "beef lingo:” Select is the leanest cut of meat, containing around 7 percent fat by weight. Choice contains 15 to 35 percent fat by weight. Prime is the fattiest grade, containing 35 to 45 percent fat by weight. If you're looking for an on-the-go beef snack and you don't mind the sodium, opt for jerky. My personal fave is Tillamook Country Smoker's Beef Steak Nuggets. They're AWESOME and contain just 70 calories and 1 gram of fat per serving!
CHEW ON THIS: A serving of beef is just three ounces. Restaurants typically serve between 6 and 11 oz. per order, so be careful when calculating calories and/or points while eating out.
