Dear HG,

I am unable to find a lot of diet and specialty foods in my local grocery store. Do you have any good websites where I can order specialty diet foods from?

-Desperate for Diet Foods
Dear Desperate,

Online stores are a fantastic tool for calorie-counters everywhere. They make shopping easy and convenient. And they also allow everyone and anyone to buy hard-to-find products.  There are two main ways to buy specialty foods online.  First off, you can often buy directly from the website of the company that produces the product you want (and you can also often save money by buying items in bulk).  To find these sites, simply "Google" the name of the company.  And even if the manufacturer doesn't sell their products online, they usually point you in the right direction of where to find them.  Another option is to buy from a bigger, more general supermarket-type online store.  Here are some of my favorites:

Heavenly Diet Store - They sell Shirataki Noodles, and even have a  "Hungry Girl-approved" section on their site.

Minimus.biz - This place is AWESOME and specializes in cute mini-size items like dressing packets, condiments, etc.

Yummydelights.com - Really fun one stop shop for  diet-friendly cookies, snack cakes and crunchy treats.

Hometownfavorites.com - Great because you can find things that are IMPOSSIBLE to find anywhere else--like whipped peanut butter, and retro candies!

SoupBase.com -  The place for unique sauces, soup bases, salsas and more.  (Don't miss Jose Madrid Roasted Garlic and Olive Salsa!)

Now that I've revealed all of my favorite secret web stores...Happy shopping!  (And, in case you were wondering, I do NOT make any money from any of these stores...I just like shopping there!)

Dear HG,

I find breakfast the most challenging meal of the day.  Do you eat breakfast?  Do you have any good b-fast ideas?  And what are your favorite and least favorite breakfast foods?

Early Riser
Dear Early Riser,

Breakfast can be challenging.  That's one reason why so many people want to skip it and wait 'til lunchtime to take their first bite of the day.  I think that's a mistake for so many reasons.  For starters, eating breakfast gets your metabolism going for the rest of the day.  Also, if you wait 'til noon or 1:00 to eat, you'll probably be so hungry you'll scarf down too much at lunch.  But back to your specific Qs.  I do eat breakfast every day.  Usually my day starts off with one of my famous iced coffee drinks, some sort of fruit, and egg whites.  If I'm feeling more adventurous, I'll whip up an egg white scramble that either has some chicken sausage, or a Dr. Praeger's veggie burger in it, along with some fat free cheese.  Yum!   If I don't have much time, I'll have some instant oatmeal instead, but I personally don't find it as satisfying as a protein-based breakfast.  I try to avoid things like cold cereals, breads, bagels, etc., in the morning because not only am I STARVING about an hour after I eat them, but after eating those things I CRAVE bread and bread-y items for the rest of the day.  The trick is finding out what works for you and sticking with that plan. Everyone is different and finds different foods satisfying.  Last, but not least, here are some breakfast recipes you might enjoy.  Give 'em a shot, they're good!
