What are some snack ideas that are 100 calories or less?

It's amazing what you can have for 100 calories nowadays. Of course there's always fruit salad or fresh fruit, like an apple, orange, peach or pear, grapes, watermelon, etc. A typical satisfying fruit snack has under 100 calories and no fat. Also, fresh cut or steamed veggies are great snack fare. But let's say you want something more snacktastic and, well, adventurous. You can have everything from ice cream, to chips and cake for 100 calories or less. If you want something cold and creamy, I recommend going for a Healthy Choice NSA Fudge Bar. Rich and chocolatey, these generously sized bars are super satisfying, and have just 80 calories. Jell-O's 60 calorie SF Pudding cups are also great for curing a cravings for sweets. And, of course, there's always a trusty VitaTop for you cake and muffin lovers. If you're in the mood for something crunchy, you may want to reach for some Guiltless Gourmet Potato Crisps. These light 'n crispy chips clock in at an impressive 100 calories and are low in fat. Need more crunchy ideas? Try Sensible Foods dried snacks. Yum! Some great protein-packed low cal snacks are string cheese and Laughing Cow Light Cheese Wedges. With 60 and 35 calories, respectively, both are great, diet-friendly, cheesy choices. Still haven't found what you're looking for? Hmmm. Well there's always Nabisco's awesome line of 100 calorie packs. Is imitation crab meat really a good low fat meat? What do you do with it?

Dear Real Curious,
Imitation crab is made of minced pollack, blended with many other ingredients. Things like sugar, sorbitol, wheat, egg whites, and vegetable or soybean oil are often used to mimic crab's natural texture. Flavorings extracted from real crab or from boiled shells are also used to make the faux fish taste authentic. As for the nutritional content of imitation crab, 4 ounces of the stuff has about 110 calories, 1g of fat, and 17g of protein (btw, real crab contains around 125 calories, 1.5g of fat, and 25g of protein in 4 ounces). As you can see, the nutritional stats for the imitation and real crab are very similar. Just like the real deal, the imitation crab is low in fat and calories, and is high in protein. And, of course, it's a lot cheaper and more convenient to prepare than real crab. As for what to do with it, the easiest way to use imitation crab is in salads. Just be sure to use a reduced fat mayo if you're making a crab salad requiring the normally fattening condiment. You can also use imitation crab to make crab cakes, or in egg white scrambles. Really, the sky's the limit when it comes to this copycat crustacean, so go for it!
