Gardenburger Original Burgers

(110 calories, 3g fat, 560mg sodium, 16g carbs, 3g fiber, 1g sugars, 6g protein)

Overall Score: 7

Gardenburgers have been around forever.  They were the first veggie burgers we ever tried, so we feel a little nostalgic about them. But that doesn't mean they're the best-tasting.  Truth is, Gardenburgers are a fine choice. Their consistency is good, their nutritionals are very good --- but the thing we have a hard time getting over is how salty they are!  If you like extremely salty food items, these may be your dream patties.  Overall, we give these burgers a 7.  We'd definitely buy them again (especially if they were on sale) but they're not in our top two.

Morningstar Farms Veggie Burgers, Garden Veggie Patties

(100 calories, 2.5g fat, 350mg sodium, 9g carbs, 4g fiber, 1g sugars, 10g protein)

Overall Score: 8.5

Morningstar Farms makes good stuff.  We tend to avoid their products that are very high in fat, but in general we're bigtime Morningstar Farms supporters.  These particular veggie burgers are solid, top-of-the line patties. They taste great, the texture is wonderful, the nutritionals are awesome and they've got a fantastic 4g of fiber!  These burgers earned themselves an impressive 8.5!  One drawback:  Morningstar products tend to be a bit pricey, so wait til these babies go on sale, then POUNCE on 'em!

Smart Menu All Natural Veggie Burgers Veggie Patties

(80 calories, 1g fat, 360mg sodium, 14g carbs, 2g fiber, 1g sugars, 4g protein)

Overall Score: 5

Ok, how should we put this?  These burgers are kind of lame.  Their texture is really weird, their flavor is, well, bad, and they leave a funny aftertaste in your mouth.  They're low in calories but the rest of their nutritionals aren't all that impressive.  We prefer burgers that are higher in protein and fiber.  The only way we would eat these burgers again is if we were very, very hungry, there was nothing else healthy to eat, and we had plenty of ketchup on hand.  These burgers scored an unimpressive 5.

Dr. Praeger's Veggie Royale California Veggie Burgers

(100 calories, 3.3g fat, 190mg sodium, 9.5g carbs, 4g fiber, 0g sugars, 8g protein)

Overall Score: 9.5

Dr. Praeger makes the most delicious and unique veggie patties on this planet (possibly in the entire galaxy, though we haven't expanded our search that far yet).  You can actually identify pieces of edamame, carrots, broccoli, corn and more in every bite.  It's a cornucopia of veggie delights!  And his nutritionals are right on.  Low calorie, no saturated fats, lots of fiber, no sugars, not a lot of carbs -- what more could you want?  The only less-than-glowing thing we can say about these delightful disks is the fact that they're a little harder to find than most other veggie burgers (look for 'em at Costco and Whole Foods, or buy 'em online).  Despite that, they've earned a well-deserved 9.5.
