Fiber ROCKS! Everyone knows that. It's great for digestion, can aid in the prevention of colon cancer, and it helps you feel full. We (people) need about 25 grams of the stuff a day, and sometimes we simply just don't get enough. Sure fruits and veggies are some of the BEST ways to get fiber into your diet. But say you've had all the apples and celery you can chew, and are still in search of fiber. Here are some of HG's very favorite UNCONVENTIONAL (and certainly more FUN!) ways to pack some much-needed fiber into your diet...
Gnu Bars are special. They're soft and chewy, like a cross between a homemade cookie and a bar. And they only have 130 calories and 3g fat each. But wait, there's more. In addition to their cookie-ish taste, these baked bars also contain an insane 12 grams of fiber each. Impressive!
Jolly Time Healthy Pop 100 Calorie Mini Bags, Kettle Corn
Americans consume 16.5 billion quarts of popped popcorn annually. About 30 percent of that is eaten outside the home - in theaters, ballparks, schools, etc. Why? Because popcorn is a snack that's fun and tastes great. Jolly Time's 100 calorie mini bags are made with Splenda, are 94% fat free, and have 4g of fiber. Not a bad way to get some much-needed fiber in your diet as far as we're concerned.
Western Bagel (California bagel chain) has cleverly created 110-calorie, 1-point bagels that have been pleasing Weight Watchers members for years. They're not quite as doughy and thick as regular bagels, but they're definitely satisfying, and each one somehow manages to cram in 7 grams of fiber. If you've been trying to talk yourself out of eating bread, STOP IT. And check these out.
We can't say enough good things about these VitaTops. Sure, they're a special Hungry Girl-developed flavor and all, but that's definitely NOT the reason we are obsessed with them. They're moist, and packed with sweet, creamy white chocolate chips, but they've also got 6 grams of good-for-you fiber in every muffin. That averages out to about one gram per delicious bite. Whoa! Fiber-ific!
We obviously love any food item that has an exclamation point in its name, but we'd be fans of this cereal from Kashi, even if its name didn't include our #1 punctuation mark. Why? Because it's made of cinnamony, sweet, crunchy, and granola-y clusters of fun, that are jam-packed with protein and fiber. Each satisfying one cup serving of the stuff has 8g of fiber and 9g of protein, as well as 7 whole grains. Yowsa!
Boca products are fantastic. There's no way around that fact. They taste great, and even if you eat the real thing (like we do), you'll love their meat-free fake out foods. Their chili is especially awesome. One serving of it contains 12 whole grams of fiber, and not a lot of calories or fat. Eat it straight, or use it to make guilt-free nachos or chili dogs. Mmmmmmm!
