Applebee's Adds Southwest Cobb to Weight Watchers Menu
Points counter alert! Applebee's, home of the licensed WW-friendly menu, has added a new item to its line-up. The latest addition is a Southwest Cobb Salad, consisting of grilled chipotle chicken, shredded cheese, broccoli, diced tomatoes, shredded carrots, corn, and black beans served on a bed of mixed greens. The meal clocks in at 440 calories, 8g fat and 13g fiber, which equals 9 points. Not bad, especially if you compare it to the Southwest Cobb that Chili's is serving up. That freakish excuse for a salad has 1186 calories and 86g of fat. Eeeks!
What About Cobb?
Small Snacks = Big Bucks
100 Calories of...EVERYTHING!
With the calorie-counting craze booming (and no end in sight), even more companies are scrambling to release portion controlled snacks. In 2004, there were five 100 calorie snacks on the market. That number jumped to 44 in 2005. Now there are 14 plus new ones on the way. They're more expensive, but consumers have happily been paying the same price for 1/3 the amount of food. So what is it about this type of packaging that makes consumers willing to pay more money? Experts say it's all about control. Pre-portioned snacks give people license to eat cookies, chips, chocolate and more, without guilt. And people are willing to pay for that. Who can blame them?
