Peanut Better!

Peanut butter is hard to resist.  And that's precisely why people have so much trouble keeping the stuff at home without gobbling up the entire jar in a few sittings.  But finding an acceptable semi-guilt-free PB swap is NOT easy.  We've tried soy nut butter and while it tastes ok, it's practically as high in fat and calories as peanut butter.  Better'n Peanut Butter, however, is all natural and has around half the calories (and a tiny fraction of the fat) of the real thing.  Very impressive.  And while it doesn't quite live up to its name (come on, did you think it actually could be BETTER than peanut butter?), it's AWESOME in recipes and paired with your favorite fruity spread.  Pssst...the product is also sold under the name Peanut Wonder.  And they make a reduced sodium version, as well. Find these PB swaps at select markets, Trader Joe's, and natural foods stores.

Warning!  Do not be fooled by “natural” peanut butters.  They’re often just as fatty and calorie-infested as the artificial, packed-with-sugar versions (sometimes more!).  Yes, we know the stuff is somewhat healthy, but some natural PBs pack in as much as 210 calories and 17 grams of fat per two-tablespoon serving (way too much for any food that fits on a spoon)!   Nutty-high nutritionals are pretty much the norm for peanut butter.  Almost all brands of creamy and crunchy varieties pack around 190 calories and 16 grams of fat into 2 tablespoons.  Even the reduced fat ones contain a whopping 12 grams of fat and the same amount of calories as the full-fat stuff!  The urge to cave in to peanut butter cravings can be tough to resist.  Thankfully, now you don't have to...
