Meringues are pretty impressive. They can satisfy a sweet tooth for VERY few calories, and they're often low-fat or fat-free. Those things score big points with us. But that being said, they're typically not the type of "cookie" we do backflips over. In fact, we have a hard time even referring to these things as cookies. They're more like "airy sugar bites" (doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "cookie," does it?). These new Peppermint Crush Meringues, however, are a different story. They ROCK! With a slightly white-chocolate-y vanilla flavor, these crunchy peppermint-candy-sprinkled treats are REALLY satisfying and delicious. Pair 'em with a cup of diet hot cocoa for a perfect late-night holiday snack. By the way, these things have an insanely low 12 calories each.
Far be it from us to recommend a beverage that contains 140 calories per cup, but this soy drink is sooooo thick, creamy and delicious we can't help ourselves. The truth is, you don't even need to down an entire cup of the stuff to be satisfied. Pour four ounces of it over ice, or add an ounce or two to a cup of coffee or hot cocoa and you're set! Even if you're not a huge chocolate mint fan, you'll freak over this stuff. We promise! It's like the thickest, yummiest minty chocolate malt EVER. There's so much you can do with it, so grab a carton of it and let the minty chocolate fun begin. Find it in the non-refrigerated boxed milk section.
Dreyer's/Edy's Slow Churned Light Ice Cream, Egg Nog
We never get tired of writing about Dreyer's/Edy's Slow Churned Light Ice Cream. Why would we? It never EVER lets us down. And, we cannot stress the importance of enjoying their limited edition holiday flavors before it's too late. Their eggnog ice cream is incredible. We're not even huge eggnog fans and we go nuts for this ice cream. It's just as creamy as the full-fat kind and the eggnog flavor is perfect --- not overpowering in any way. Eat this stuff straight or use it in dessert and drink recipes. Just eat it. Because after January, it's gone until next November.
The Republic of Tea - Comfort and Joy Tea, Holiday Spice Blend
Drinking this stuff is exactly like sipping a holiday in a cup. We know that probably sounds weird, but it's really the best way to describe the flavor of this tea. We found it accidentally while strolling down the aisles of Whole Foods, when the seasonal aroma of cinnamon, apple and clove immediately sucked us in. We tried a sample of the stuff and we've been hooked ever since. This mix of black tea, apple, licorice root and other holiday-ish spices really pops when you add a teaspoon of French Vanilla Fat Free Coffee-mate powder or a splash of your favorite low-cal milk or soymilk to it.
It's hard to find after the holidays, so remember to stock up before it's gone for a looooong time.
