SHASTA IS NOW SPLENDA-RIFIC!
Are you Splenda-obsessed? Do you seek out beverages that use the popular no-calorie sweetener? Now you can add Shasta to the list! Says company prez, Joseph G. Caporella, "We believe that even more consumers will now discover the exciting line of Shasta diet flavors. Once you've tried a Diet Shasta Grape, Kiwi-Strawberry, Grapefruit or French Vanilla Cola...you are 'splenda-dly' hooked for life!" Good one, Joe. Other sodas sweetened with Splenda include Diet Rite, Diet Jones and Diet Hansen's.
KIRSTIE INKS A BIG FAT DEAL WITH SHOWTIME
At 203 lbs., Kirstie Alley may weigh more now than she ever has before, but she's as happy as can be. The star of Cheers & Veronica's Closet recently inked a deal with Showtime to star in a TV series called Fat Actress. The show will be about the life of (you guessed it) a fat actress, and like Curb Your Enthusiasm, it'll be half scripted and half improvised. Kirstie has been speaking out candidly about her weight gain, and says it is due, in large part, to having sucked down 14 grape sodas a day (Kirstie, meet Diet Grape Shasta, Diet Grape Shasta, Kirstie). Though she isn't trying to slim down right now, Kirstie says she'll eventually lose weight.
FAT IS STILL SCARIER THAN CARBS
A recent Gallup Poll says that despite the recent low carb trend, Americans still fear fat way more than they fear carbs. The poll shows that 67% of Americans believe a diet low in fat is more beneficial to the average person than one low in carbohydrates. Only 23% felt a low carb diet was more beneficial. These views have pretty much remained constant over the past few years. Those surveyed did, however, say they were more aware of and sometimes actively avoided carbs.
DREYER'S BUYS SKINNY COW
The days of trading magic beans for a cow are apparently over. Dreyer's had to cough up a cool 70 million to buy Silhouette, the makers of Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches (and other awesome diet-friendly treats). Silhouette was started by two guys in New York back in the early 90s. They built their modest business into a frozen snack megabrand, thanks to their points-friendly ice cream treats and the support of Weight Watchers dieters. In other (and some might say more important) Skinny Cow news, there's a new flavor ice cream sandwich available - Black Cherry! Mmmmmmmmm!
CHEW ON THIS: Today, August 2nd, is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. Could there be a better day to try one of those new Skinny Cow Black Cherry Ice Cream Sandwiches?
