Weight Watchers GIANT Chocolate Cookies & Cream Ice Cream Bars
(1 bar: 140 calories, 4.5g fat, 110mg sodium, 26g carbs, 4g fiber, 16g sugars, 3g protein = 2 Points)
We've been fans of the original Weight Watchers GIANT Cookies & Cream bar for YEARS now. That one is filled with low-fat vanilla ice cream and is reeeaally good. So we were kinda psyched to see that it was recently released in Chocolate. Truth be told, in general, we're bigger fans of vanilla than we are of chocolate. But this bar doesn't disappoint. It is GIANT (like the box promises), and while it's definitely NOT your "typical" cookies-&-cream-type ice cream item (you know, with bits of Oreo-ish cream sandwiches mixed in), it does deliver on the "cookie" part. The entire bar is coated in chocolate cookie crumbs. So what we have here is a milky chocolate ice cream bar with a lovely cookie coating. Nice work, Double W! We'd eat this bar again, for sure!
Overall Score: 8. Tastes great. Good fat and cal counts. 4 grams of fiber, too!
OK, the idea of beauteous 20-calorie ice pops that each pack in watermelon, pineapple, cherry, raspberry and orange flavors is exciting to us! But we'd be lying if we told you we weren't ever-so-slightly disappointed when we first slid one of these treats out of its wrapper and didn't see the perfect, pretty ice pop the box promises. Instead of bright colors in even sections, these snacks are sort of muted and grey-ish. So, they're not beautiful -- but how do they TASTE? Well, they didn't score HUGELY high marks here either. The main issue is that the flavors aren't easily distinguishable. In fact, all the flavors pretty much taste the same -- like they're all melted into one another. Here's the good news: These pops are chunky, sweet and fun; they don't taste bad at all; and they have just 20 calories each.
Overall Score: 6. Not bad, but we're not flipping over 'em.
What's better than freezing your own ice pops? Ok, lots of things, but we don't need to get into that right now. What's important here is that these freeze 'n eat treats will make you feel like a kid again! With only five calories for TWO of them (they're sweetened with Splenda), you can enjoy many MANY of them on a hot summer day! And they come in lots of flavors. Here they are now, listed in order of how much we like them: blue raspberry (yummy!), grape (great!), cherry (not bad), and lime (ummm, luckily there were only two of those in the pack). Cool!
(1 bar: 150 calories, 8g fat, 30mg sodium, 19g carbs, 1g fiber, 9g sugars, 2g protein = 3 Points)
Slow churned ice cream is one of the greatest inventions the world has ever seen (it's right there behind the Internet and the cotton gin). So the idea of nestling some of the stuff inside a rich chocolate coating packed with NESTLÉ CRUNCH pieces is BRILLIANT! These bars are a tad high in fat, but think of them as a guilt-free swap for insanely decadent bars from Haagen-Dazs or Dove, rather than a crazy-low-cal ice cream treat. There, now that we've gotten that out of the way, the lovefest can begin! These bars also come in Creamy Vanilla (classic!), Cookies & Cream (yum!), and Vanilla Almond (which is a delicious No Sugar Added version). By the way, as much as we dig these bars, they don't hold a candle to the Take The Cake American Idol light ice cream this company makes (click to vote -- there's still time!).
Overall Score: 8. Insanely delicious, but slightly high in fat.
CHEW ON THIS: Today, June 7th, is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day! Celebrate with something guilt-free and delicious, like a WW GIANT Chocolate Cookies & Cream bar, or some Dreyer's/Edy's Slow Churned Light Ice Cream. Mmmmmm!
