We're not gonna lie to you. We spend a lot of time ripping McDonald's apart. They deserve it, don't they?! Their menu is packed with crazy-fatty, insanely high-calorie stuff. But every now and then they do something right. First there was the low-fat ice cream cone (150 calories of sheer perfection!). Next, the Asian Chicken Salad (awesome and definitely the first-ever appearance of edamame at a fast food joint!). The latest GREAT thing to hit the Mickey D's menu is their limited-edition Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken. It ROCKS. It has everything you'd ever want in a Southwest salad -- black beans, shredded cheddar, fire-roasted corn, tortilla strips (that taste exactly like Doritos!), and warm glazed chicken. Yum! And a jam-packed salad WITH dressing for 420 calories is pretty impressive. If you want to save 50 calories and about 3 grams of fat, use half the dressing (those packets are too huge anyhow). Remember to order it with the GRILLED chicken, though. Mess up and get the crispy and your salad will have 80 more calories and 7 more fat grams (no one needs those). Ronald, you've impressed us yet again. Nice work, clown! |

Oh, Chili's. We have such a love/hate relationship with you. On one hand we despise your ridiculous ways (cooking everything in TOO much oil, spreading BUTTER on your burger rolls...WHAT is up with that?!). But on the other hand, we admire the quality of the food you serve at such insanely low prices, and the fact that you care enough to proudly feature an entire Guiltless Grill menu (not all of it's guiltless, but that's a story for another day). The thing that totally baffles us though, is the fact that you pack a gazillion calories into your salads. Salads should never have calories in the quadruple digits, Chili's. And you shouldn't need us to tell you that. Your Southwestern Cobb Salad features very oily fried chicken, bacon, cheese, corn relish, egg, and some embarrassingly fatty avocado-ranch dressing. All that adds up to over 1,100 calories and 75 grams of fat! That's CRAZY -- especially since you can get a lovely southwest salad at McD's that's not nauseatingly greasy, is cheaper and has a fraction of the calories. The choice is yours. |
