THE NEW DRINKABLE DONUT
We don't know about you guys, but we were really looking forward to trying the new low carb Krispy Kreme donuts that were announced back in May. However, months have gone by and we have not heard a peep about when they'll be released. This summer everyone and their grandmother (literally, click here for proof) has introduced carb-reduced foods. And still no Krispy Kremes. What the heck are they waiting for? The Krispy Kreme folks did, however, rush to launch their new frozen blended beverage. This frightening glazed donut-flavored smoothie packs in 730 calories and 24 grams of fat! With 117 carbs it's not for carb-counters, but it's the perfect snack for the toothless or anyone who wants to gain a thousand pounds without chewing.
THE WHITE STUFF
A revolutionary new flour has been unveiled that will allow bakers to bake bread that has the taste and appearance of white bread, but with the nutritional benefits of whole wheat bread. The flour, called Ultragrain, was unveiled yesterday at the International Baking Industry Expo in Las Vegas. We have questions. Where will this flour be sold? Does it taste good? Will well-known bread companies start to use it? And most importantly, who unveils a new flour on a Sunday?
CUCKOO FOR SPLENDA PUFFS
Do you and/or your kids love the taste of sweet cereals, but not all the sugar that comes along with them? Good news! Now three of your old faves, Cocoa Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Trix are available with 75 percent less sugar. The new cereals use a sugar/Splenda combo and they taste every bit as sweet and yummy as their sugary counterparts. One would think less sugar would mean fewer calories, but some of these newer versions actually pack in MORE calories and carbs than the originals. Um, we don't understand it either...
SOAKING IN CHOCOLATE GOO IS GOOD FOR YOU
An Austrian health spa is giving chocolate lovers a chance to take the ultimate plunge. Bad Eisenkappel is drawing hundreds of visitors with their new melted chocolate bath. Spa officials say the cocoa butter in chocolate helps protect skin from developing wrinkles, and spa visitors are eating it up. Now if you'll excuse us, we have to go stick our heads in buckets of Yoohoo.
CHEW ON THIS: Boxes of breakfast cereal usually contain between 11 and 16 servings. In order to avoid eating too many calories in one sitting, measure your servings carefully!
