The #1 100-Calorie Snack of the Year!
The #1 100-Calorie Snack of the Year!
You Voted - 2007's BEST 100-Calorie Snacks!!!!

Gazillions of emails poured in (thank you!). Here are your TOP TEN favorite 100-calorie items...

1. Hostess 100 Calorie Packs - These cupcakes won HANDS DOWN (there wasn't even a close second).

2. Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs, Lorna Doone Shortbread Cookie Crisps - Obviously super-popular -- and they should be.

3. Keebler 100 Calorie Right Bites, Fudge Shoppe Grasshopper - We're not huge fans of chocolate mint, but like you, we LOVE these fudge dipped mint cookies.

4. Frito-Lay 100 Calorie Mini Bites, Cheetos Asteroids - People wrote in about the Baked! Cheetos Crunchy version of these too, but the Asteroids were mentioned the most.

5. Hershey's 100 Calorie Bars, Pretzel Bars - Hershey's chocolate covered salty snacks are loved by many!

6. Quaker Mini Delights - Technically not a 100-calorie snack (just 90 calories!), but that didn't stop the votes from pouring in.

7. Orville Redenbacher's SmartPop! 100 Calorie Mini Bags - Popcorn is good!

8. Chex 100 Calorie Snack Pouches, Chocolate Caramel - Who doesn't love Chex Mix?

9. Vitalicious VitaTops - These are the original 100-calorie snack.

10. Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs, Barnum's Animals Choco Crackers - These chocolate animal crackers are fairly new, but they have lots of fans!
Starbucks - Spreading Holiday Cheer!

We're so proud of Starbucks -- not only are they serving up customizable gift cards this year, but also their whole "Pass the Cheer" thing is back. It works like this -- grab a Cheer Pass at a Starbucks location and spread the cheer by doing nice things and good deeds. Then share your stories of cheer and track your Cheer Pass (they're numbered) on the site. You can also start a Cheer Chain online with a customized virtual greeting. The site is sort of clunky (click here for the non-Flash version), but don't abandon it -- it's doing a lot of good for the world. Also on tap at The Bucks? Lots of guilt-free beverages as they roll out a new "skinny" campaign, which gives you ideas for ordering drinks with 100 calories or less -- no doubt inspired by Hungry Girl. We're flattered... and psyched!

Cool Deals and Fun Stuff...

Dr. Melina ROCKS - She's our pal and she makes yummy bars. Order 'em from Amazon and she'll send you stuff. For a limited time (until 12/25), buy one pack of 15 bars and get a free food journal, order two packs and get a FREE vitamin pack ($25 value), or grab three packs and a signed copy of Dr. M's book will show up at your door. Just forward your order confirmation (include your mailing address at the top) to her at orders@drmelina.com. Weee!

Peanut Butter FEVER!
- Ooooh... cute Justin and his tasty natural nut butters are up to something fun over there at the Justin's Nut Butter HQ. Buy five boxes of the Squeeze Packs during the holiday season and you'll get a box of the Maple Almond Butter ones for FREE (a $9.50 value). And don't worry if you don't see the free item at checkout -- you'll get an email confirming your freebie is coming! By the way, we harassed him so much about adding 100-calorie packets to his line that he finally caved -- they'll be available in February. We'll keep you posted of course!

Freerice.com
- This site is AMAZING. Here's the deal -- you play a fun little word game, and for every Q you get right, twenty grains of rice are donated to starving people in underprivileged countries. So put on your thinking caps, play for a while, and do a good deed while boosting your brainpower. (You might wanna think about using the StealthSwitch if you're doing this at work -- see "The Buzz..." below for details.)
The Buzz...

Are you a fan of those Weight Watchers baked goodies? Well, look out for individual packs of their snack cakes and muffins to hit 7-Eleven shelves in January and February. Guess we're going to have to update our convenience store survival guide... ***Check out this cool find -- it's called StealthSwitch. It gets rid of whatever sensitive material is up on your computer screen in an INSTANT. Just click the foot switch and POOF -- it's gone. Another click, and it's back! This is PERFECT for when you're reading HG at work or searching the McDonald's website for nutritional info and your boss walks in (but you didn't hear that from us!). ***ConAgra Foods (they own Libby's, Hunt's, Healthy Choice and a bazillion other brands) say they've cut about THREE MILLION POUNDS of sodium from their foods without affecting the taste. They promise to continue to look for ways to reduce the amount of salt in their foods. Awesome! ***New research presented at this year's American Association for Cancer Research annual conference shows that eating raw cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli and cabbage) three times a month could reduce your risk of developing bladder cancer by 40%. BTW, we recommend wrapping your veggie burger patties in cabbage leaves. SOOOO GOOOD! That's all we've got. HG out!
