Weight Watchers Smart Ones Anytime Selections Calzone Italiano
Oh, it's a happy day at the Hungry Girl HQ! Why? Because we have discovered a ridiculously tasty, guilt-free calzone swap. And the best part is, you don't even have to spend time in the kitchen building it. All you have to do is head to your favorite supermarket's frozen food aisle and snatch it up from the Smart Ones case. This frozen wonder comes complete with its very own "crisping sleeve", so your 'zone will be crusty and oozing with low-fat mozzarella cheese, Italian sausage, and a yummy tomato sauce -- as opposed to a soggy nuked mess! Another perk (to quote the Smart Ones marketing peeps) is the fact that it can be enjoyed "fork-free" (not that we have anything against forks)! Weeeeee!
Calzone is actually Italian for "stocking" or "trouser" (FYI, we didn't make that up). In fact, the first calzone in recorded history was created when a very hungry seamstress folded a pizza in half, sewed it up, and took a giant bite... (okay, that, we made up). But seriously, a doughy pizza-like pocket filled with cheese, sauce, and sausage is pretty much delicious in any language. However, the nutritionals for a single sausage calzone are scary-high. You're lookin' at 584 calories and 30 fat grams for an average sausage-stuffed one. And as you might have guessed, there are some out there that are FAR worse. Grab a calzone at the Atlanta Bread Company, and you'll be downing 820 calories and 32 grams of fat (POINTS® value 18*). Order the Chicken Caesar Calzonetto at Macaroni Grill, and it'll cost you 1,540 calories and 88 fat grams (POINTS® value 37*). Eeeks! Luckily, you don't need to swear off this Italian indulgence (that would be very sad). Just swing by the supermarket for Hungry Girl's latest freezer find... PRONTO!
