Hungry Girl,

I have fallen head over heels for the Starbucks Mint Chocolaty Chip
Frappuccino Blended Crème (with chocolate whipped cream!). It's so good,
I've been too afraid to even look for the nutritional stats. Any thoughts on
how to enjoy this thing guilt-free?

Frap Fan

Dear Frap Fan,

In general, I'm not crazy about the whole chocolate mint combo... I think it's
okay but often not worth the calories (to me, the mint part ruins the fun of
indulging in chocolate). But that being said, there are some chocolate mint
things I do like, and I understand that there are a bazillion fans of the
combination. As for your new Starbucks crush, the stats aren't pretty. A
Grande (aka medium) one with the chocolate whipped cream clocks in at 530
calories and 19g fat (POINTS® value 12*). The smallest version with no whip
still contains 310 calories and 5g fat (POINTS® value 6*) -- and that
chocolate whipped cream is the best part! They don't make a light version of
this Blended Crème beverage, so I decided to take a stab at it -- and the
results are FANTASTIC! BTW, the unique thing about this Frap (and the
swap!) is that it combines chocolate and SPEARMINT, not peppermint. But
either works (and spearmint extract is super-hard to find). Check it out...

Soooo good! P.S. You might wanna take a peek at the answer to the next Q
before breaking out your blender...

Hey, HG!

What type of blender do you use for all of your blended ice drinks? Mine
doesn't crush ice well at all. Thanks!

Blender Baffled

Dear Blender Baffled,

As you probably know, I LOOOOVE blended drinks. I'm also a bit of a
blender maniac (and an ice snob!), because if you have a bad blender (or
lame-o ice cubes), your smoothies, Swappuccinos and shakes are NOT going
to be good. Here are some of the best blenders in the biz...

The Magic Bullet - It ROCKS -- so do all of the offshoots of this personal-
sized blending phenomenon.

The Blendtec EZ - An AMAZING blender that is used daily at the HG HQ! It's
crazy-pricey but AWESOME!

The Vita-Mix Turbo Blend - No relation to VitaTops! This is another fancy
blender that people RAVE about. Also VERY expensive.

The Braun PowerMax Jug Blender - It's reasonably priced and people LOVE,

Happy blending! And remember, once you have a great blender, hook
yourself up with some GREAT ice (it should NOT be old or made from
unfiltered tap water!) and -- of course -- our fantastic HG recipes!
