Spotted on Shelves...
Baked Classics Potato Crisps - Yup, the shelves are OVERFLOWING with guilt-
free chip options, but Baked Classics are worth checking out. They come in
Mesquite Barbeque and Sour Cream & Onion, and each 1-oz. bag has just
120 calories, 1.5 - 2.5g fat, 19g carbs, 1g fiber, and 1g protein (POINTS®
value 2*). These chips are airy and crispy in texture (almost like super-light
soy crisps or mini rice cakes). Mmmmmm! They can be found on select
supermarket shelves and EASILY ordered online. Two YUMS up!
Jell-O Sugar Free Gelatin with Antioxidants - If you like your wiggly desserts
to have cancer-fighting abilities, you'll be pleased to know that Jell-O has just
launched a line of 10-calorie gelatin snack cups that are enhanced with
vitamins A and E. Available in two flavors with healthy "buzzwords" --
Strawberry Acai and Raspberry Goji. We've heard a Cherry Pomegranate
flavor has also been spotted at Costco.
Praeventia Cookies in Dark Chocolate Chip 70% Cocoa with Red Wine
Extract and Orange Zest with Green Tea Extract - Okay, these bite-sized
cookies win the award for having the WORST name and the most
snoozefesty-sounding flavors, but they are REALLY good. We tried 'em and
we LIKE 'em... a lot. They even come in cute little heart shapes and are
made with healthy ingredients. Each pouch contains about eight cookies and
has 140 - 150 calories, 5 - 6g fat, 21 - 22g carbs, 3 - 4g fiber, and 2g protein
(POINTS® value 3*). BTW, we found ours at Target.
Soooo... Is Menu Labeling Changing Habits?!
As you know, chain restaurants in NYC with 15+ locations have been
required to post calorie counts for a while now, and other cities are following
suit. So is this blatant "calories in your face" approach working? It would
appear so! In a recent survey, 82% of NYers said the posted nutritional info
affects what they order. And, believe it or not, 60% say it's actually affecting
which restaurants they visit. This is good news, people! It means we're
becoming more responsible and a bit smarter about the foods we eat.
Lawmakers in Philly, Los Angeles, and other cities have jumped on the
calorie-posting bandwagon, too. (But the Philly law doesn't go into effect until
2010, and CA chains have until 2011 to post the stats... Boo!) Let's hope
more and more cities and counties sign on soon. Know what would be even
MORE effective? If your server said, "Are you SURE you don't want fruit
instead of FRIES with that omelette?" or "OMG, you CANNOT order the
Caesar dressing... it has 78 grams of fat!" We can dream...

do NOT affect the weight of the children living in these homes. Interesting
