Warning: The following salad statistics are seriously scary. Can you handle
these shockers, people?

Outback Steakhouse Pittsburgh Style Steakhouse Salad = 1,370 calories
(POINTS® value of at least 27*)!

If you were faced with a plate of sirloin, cinnamon pecans, blue cheese
dressing, and "Aussie Chips" (don't be cute, Outback, we know they're just
greasy French fries!), you'd probably think twice before chewing. Well, just
because it's served on a bed of mixed greens doesn't mean it's any lighter!
Avoid this obnoxious entree at all costs. And click here to check out some
pretty good advice on how to special order stuff at Outback to fit your diet...
and take the advice, people.

Romano's Macaroni Grill Chicken Florentine Salad = 900 calories, 60g fat,
and 65g carbs (POINTS® value 22*)!

Even we were shocked and horrified by the stats on this salad. It seems
innocent enough -- grilled chicken, fresh spinach, diced tomatoes, capers,
and... PASTA?! Yep. This thing's got fancy "imported orzo" weighing it down.
And its lemony vinaigrette contains close to a dozen fat grams! This isn't the
worst salad on Mac Grill's menu (the Seared Sea Scallops Salad holds that
title), but it is alarming and completely offensive to salad-eaters. Instead of
that nonsense, we recommend chomping on The Grill's new Jumbo Shrimp
Spiedini (a.k.a. skewers) for just 330 calories and 9g fat (POINTS® value

Carl's Jr. Taco Salad = 970 calories, 58g fat, and 76g carbs (POINTS® value

If you think you're doing yourself a favor by ordering a salad at the drive-
thru, guess again. This taco salad's even worse than the infamous one at
Taco Bell! With beef, beans, two types of cheese, sour cream, and a crispy
tortilla bowl, this sorry excuse for a salad contains more calories than a
Guacamole Bacon Burger and more fat than THREE Big Hamburgers at Carl's
Jr.! Did we mention these stats do NOT include dressing? Add a serving of
House Dressing and you're lookin' at a total of 1,190 calories and 80g fat
(POINTS® value 30*). You're WAY better off skipping the salad and ordering
a Charbroiled BBQ Chicken Sandwich for just 380 calories and 7g fat
(POINTS® value 8*).

Applebee's California Shrimp Salad = 1,310 calories (POINTS® value of at
least 26*)!

Ugh. We shudder to speculate how much fat is in this salad. Between the
bacon, hard-boiled eggs, avocado, olives, and that dressing... There's
probably a good reason Applebee's is hush-hush about the fat content in its
dishes! This salad packs more calories than the entire Chicken Fried Chicken
meal (a slab of deep-fried chicken with gravy-covered mashed potatoes).
The dressing ALONE accounts for 590 of the total calories. CRAZY. INSANE.
SKIP IT. Save a bazillion calories by choosing the Chili-Lime Chicken Salad
instead -- that has 250 calories, 6g fat, and a POINTS® value of 5.

Chili's Quesadilla Explosion Salad = 1,260 calories, 76g fat, and 84g carbs
(POINTS® value 31*)!

This greasy weirdo of a salad comes with quesadilla wedges, tortilla strips,
chicken, mixed cheeses, plus TWO different dressings. Does anyone know
the Spanish word for "overkill"? (No, really. We looked it up on Babel Fish
and got capacidad de destruccion superior al de las fuerzas enemigas.) Eat
this thing and there'll be a second explosion -- YOUR PANTS! Order
something off the Guiltless Grill menu instead. Or head to your kitchen and
whip up HG's very own Quesadilla Blast Salad for just 308 calories and 4g fat
(POINTS® value 6*). Woohoo!

Dressings, Undressed!

Salad dressing can make or break your meal. In fact, some dressings have
more fat and calories than we'd spend on an entire entree! Check out these
shocking stats and remember to order dressing on the side (then dip, don't

Balsamic Vinaigrette = 590 calories!
Also Bad: House Vinaigrette, Honey Mustard, Ranch, and Bleu Cheese (330 -
490 calories).
Best Bet: Low-Fat Cilantro Lime (160 calories).

Buttermilk Ranch = 230 calories and 24g fat!
Also Bad: Dijon Honey Mustard and Balsamic Vinaigrette (130 - 180 calories
and 12 - 17g fat).
Best Bet: Um, there is none.

Au Bon Pain
Hazelnut Vinaigrette = 270 calories and 25g fat!
Also Bad: Caesar, Blue Cheese, and Sesame Ginger (230 - 310 calories and
20 - 33g fat).
Best Bet: Fat-Free Raspberry Vinaigrette (50 calories).

Cosi Vinaigrette = 357 calories and 39g fat!
Also Bad: Pepperanch, Roasted Shallot Sherry Vinaigrette, Pesto Vinaigrette,
Caesar, and Italian (246 - 340 calories and 26 - 40g fat).
Best Bet: Fat-Free Balsamic Vinaigrette (28 calories).

Honey Mustard = 500 calories and 48g fat!
Also Bad: Buttermilk Ranch and Peppercorn Caesar (350 - 480 calories and
35 - 50g fat).
Best Bet: Fat-Free Balsamic Vinaigrette (120 calories).

Little Light Lies! - Don't assume dressings labeled "light" are automatically
guilt-free. Burger King's Light Italian, Au Bon Pain's Lite Olive Oil Vinaigrette
and Light Ranch, and Steak 'n' Shake's Light Ranch each have 110 - 160
calories and 10 - 16g fat per serving!
