***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in

Lotus Biscoff Cookies - We have our fantasies of sitting in a cute European
café, enjoying coffee with biscuits while peering mysteriously over our
oversized sunglasses. For now, though, we'll be nibbling on these Belgian-
style cookies. They come in several varieties, including portion-controlled
options like the 0.5-oz. Two-Pack, which has 73 calories, 3g fat, 58mg
sodium, 11g carbs, <0.5g fiber, 6g sugars, and 1g protein (POINTS® value
2*). Ooh la la! Click here to order (and check out the nicely priced Extra
Large version!) and click here to see if they're sold near you.
Activate Drinks - Not only do these stevia-sweetened drinks come in cute
bottles but also, in an effort to preserve the nutrients, the vitamins stay
separate from the water until the last second. Just twist the cap to release
the good stuff, shake it up, and sip! The lineup includes a fantastic array of
benefit/flavor varieties, like Workout/Passion Fruit and Immunity/Orange.
Each 16-oz. bottle has just 5 calories, 0 - 75mg sodium, and 1g carbs
(POINTS® value 0*). Find 'em at select stores in CA, NV, HI, and AZ, or buy
some online -- they rock!
Heinz Simply Heinz Tomato Ketchup - Ketchup is definitely on the HG's
Favorite Things list (along with bunnies and reality TV). And if you're into an
all-natural way of living, you DON'T have to cut the yummy tomato
condiment out of your life. This stuff is made with simple ingredients (hence
the name), like sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup. A 1-tbsp. serving
has just 20 calories, 190mg sodium, 5g carbs, and 4g sugars (POINTS®
value 0*), so start dipping!
HG Special Orders... New Fast-Food Salads!
There are some fantastic-sounding new salads out in fast-food land! And
while ordering salad at a burger joint might seem like a safe bet, it can be
anything but. Luckily, we're giving a couple of lettuce-based bowls the HG
treatment and saving you TONS of calories...
Carl's Jr. Hawaiian Grilled Chicken Salad - Wowsers! This new bed o' greens
is topped with grilled chicken, pineapple slices, cucumber, and red onion.
It's "served with" wonton strips and Asian dressing, and we're gonna assume
those aren't included in the stats. (The dressing alone has 120 cals and 8g
fat.) So skip 'em both and opt for the 35-calorie Low Fat Balsamic
Vinaigrette. Then your salad will clock in at 295 calories, 9.5g fat, and 4g
fiber (POINTS® value 6*). Sweet!
Wendy's Apple Pecan Chicken Salad - Another enticing newbie on the salad
scene. Save the pack of pecans that comes on the side for a pick-me-up
snack later in the day, and use just half of the 2-oz. serving of Pomegranate
Vinaigrette. The resulting salad will still have plenty of fruity dressing, two
types of apples, dried cranberries, chicken, and blue cheese crumbles for
410 calories, 15g fat, and 5g fiber (POINTS® value 9*). Pretty great for a
decadent drive-thru salad!
Foods of the Future!
We're no fortune-tellers -- we just get the inside info on the craziest new
food items on the market. First up, fruit with a surprising hue in the middle.
When you bite into a red apple, you don't expect to see MORE RED inside.
Well, prepare to... New Redlove Era apples have pretty pinkish red flesh!
Sometimes beauty ISN'T only skin deep... Next, pasta entrées with SUPER-
LOW calorie counts?! Check out these saucy "noo" pasta dishes from
NoOodle (a company that makes no-calorie yam-flour noodles): Mamma Mia
Marinara!, Terri-Yaki Chicken, Ultra-Lite Primavera, and Say Cheese,
Pleeeze! The 10-oz. entrées have as few as 30 calories each! INSANE. Look
for these heat-'n-eat meals to start showing up on refrigerated shelves in
September. And from the world of liquids, The Coca-Cola Company has
scientists drumming up wild new stuff, from a carbonated dairy drink
to "products that aren't necessarily liquids." WHOA. The future is coming,
Welcome to a fruit-'n-veggie-filled edition of The Buzz! Wish you could meet
that special someone who enjoys veggies as much as you do? The crazies
behind quick-service restaurant Just Salad have come up with the solution:
SaladMatch.com! Find dates based on which Just Salad location you frequent
and your favorite toppings. Wow. Sadly, locations are currently limited to
NYC and Hong Kong, but this story is too cute to have passed up. ***BAD
NEWS! According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, salsa
and guacamole are among the more common sources of food poisoning
when dining out -- nearly 4 percent of ALL traceable restaurant outbreaks
between 1998 and 2008 started with one of those dips. That's more than
double the amount in previous years. YIKES! However, this info might make
it a tad easier to avoid that chip basket... ***Ever wondered what your fruit
and veggies would look like if you gave 'em an MRI? OK, neither had we, but
they look COOL! Observe their (mildly creepy) beauty. ***Finally, if you
think veggies (or other food items) just don't fill you up enough, it may be all
in your head. New research from the Society for the Study of Ingestive
Behavior indicates that people who thought they were eating more reported
feeling fuller than others who believed they were consuming less... even
though they all got the same amount. Pretty tricky. That's all we've got. HG
