***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in

Hungry Girl Today: 11.01.10

Spotted on Shelves...

Jala All Natural Low Fat Frozen Yogurt Bars - We know it's not fro-yo season, but we're not letting cooler temps get between us and these treats. Try the vanilla versions with swirls of either pomegranate or blueberry, or go for the lemon bar with a sweet tea swirl! Each probiotic-packed bar has 110 calories, 1g fat, 60mg sodium, 22g carbs, 0g fiber, 15g sugars, and 3g protein (POINTS® value 2*). Pssst... The brand also makes a Low Fat Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream Bar! Click to locate these goodies.

New Flavors! Balance Bar Gold - When it comes to snack bars, we're picky. Is the bar worth the calories? Is it a midday treat or a meal replacement? And most importantly, does it taste good? These new varieties -- S'mores and Lemon Meringue Crunch -- are SO worth it, have stats that make them acceptable as snacks (especially if you've had a light breakfast!), and taste AMAZING. Each of the new bars has 200 calories, 7g fat, 210 - 220mg sodium, 23g carbs, 2 - 3g fiber, 14g sugars, and 14g protein (POINTS® value 4*). YES!

Jimmy D's Griddle Sticks - Fun frozen breakfast item alert! It's like having a corn dog for breakfast, only it's turkey sausage coated with cooked pancake batter! Each Pancake N Sausage stick has 160 calories, 6g fat, 410mg sodium, 21g carbs, 0g fiber, 8g sugars, and 7g protein (POINTS® value 4*). Jimmy D, have you met our friend Mrs. Butterworth and her sugar-free syrup?

Regional Restaurant Chains We Want Nationwide!

We love In-N-Out Burger, so we're thrilled to announce that it's coming to Texas, the furthest east the California-based brand has grown! Texans, soon you too will be able to snarf 160-calorie protein-style burgers (ordered with ketchup and mustard instead of the spread)! Here are a few small chains we've heard of and also want to see expand...

Seasons 52 - With locations currently in 8 states (and soon to be in 11), this chain is owned by the same people who run Olive Garden and Red Lobster. The EXTREMELY COOL distinction? Everything on the menu has less than 475 calories, which is impressive for a lineup of flatbreads, steaks, fancy salads, seafood meals, and more! We want this place everywhere... especially within walking distance of the HG HQ!

Which Wich - If you're looking for a slightly hipper Subway-type joint, you'll be into this custom-sandwich shop. We LOVE that there are vegetarian selections (like the Black Bean Patty), an in-a-bowl/over-lettuce "sandwich" option at the Los Angeles location, and a bunch of under-400-calories choices (Chicken Cordon Bleu on whole wheat for around 350 calories?!). YES!

Naked Pizza - This no-guilt pizza chain is expanding FAST. Right now, it's got 4 locations with 9 more coming soon, and there are plans for 17 additional locations after that! The thing that sets this pizza apart? A slice of a medium thin-crust cheese pizza has only 91 calories.

Chain, Chain, Chain...

Oh Boy, George!

Big George Goes Even Bigger!

Since the original "Lean, Mean, Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine" came out in 1994, we've had a soft spot in our hearts for the big guy with the little grills. Now, check out the all-new George Foreman Healthy Cooking lineup. The Evolve Grill is to the original Foreman grill what the T-1000 was to the Terminator -- it's new, improved, and has more crazy functions. The timer and temperature control are nice, and we're TOTALLY impressed with the grill plate swaps and cool inserts: waffle plates, a deep-dish baking pan, a mini-burger pan, and more. WHOA! The new line also includes the Skillite Searing Skillet, the Panini Grill, the Smart Kitchen Multicooker, and the Countertop Oven & Rotisserie, which appears to be a super-charged toaster oven that can cook a 5-pound chicken. Now THAT is a real knockout punch. (BTW, we are in no way affiliated with George's schmancy kitchen toys; we just love them.)

The Buzz...

HEADS UP! As we mentioned last week, Nestlé is recalling some Fun Size Bags of Raisinets, as they may contain undeclared peanuts. If you or your kiddo has a peanut allergy, click here for the full info before consuming the chocolate-coated raisins. ***Enough downer news -- did you know you could toast coconut in the microwave? We didn't, until we saw it here. Try it if you dare... ***More countertop appliance news! Recent market research shows that microwaves and stovetops are, and will continue to be, the most popular appliances for making meals -- but the use of slow cookers and grills is on the rise. Sounds like good news for Mr. Foreman... ***Click here and read a bit of fun food history about one of our favorite products, The Laughing Cow cheese. In French, the cheese is called La Vache Qui Rit (quite literally translated as "The Cow Who Laughs") and has been trademarked since 1921! ***Speaking of the Cow, we recently mentioned that we buy big packs of The Laughing Cow Light Creamy Swiss at Costco. Well, SUPER-HELPFUL subscriber Debbie let us know that the Costco in her 'hood (Irvine, CA) sells Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze in six-packs! Keep an eye out for those. ***Hey, T.G.I. Friday's! We heard about your great-sounding new menu items at the Denver-area locations: Ahi Tuna with Avocado Crisps, Roccoli Broccoli Salad, Broiled Tilapia with Tomato Cucumber Vinaigrette, etc. WE WANT THEM TOO! Hungry humans cannot live on deep-fried green beans alone... (And Denver peeps, let us know if those dishes are as good as they sound.) That's all we've got. HG out!
